Photos from LSU baseball’s SEC championship loss to Tennessee

The Tigers fell short of an SEC title and will await their NCAA tournament fate.

LSU baseball’s special run this week at the SEC tournament in Hoover came to an end in the SEC championship game against the Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday.

The Tigers took the early lead on the Vols thanks to a 471-foot home run from [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag], but that wouldn’t last. In the third, UT hit a three-run homer and added another run in the seventh.

A two-run rally in the ninth got LSU back into the game, but it wasn’t enough as they fell 4-3. Now, coach Jay Johnson’s team will await its NCAA tournament fate on Monday.

In the meantime, here are the photos from the loss.

Jay Johnson updates status of LSU pitcher Christian Little following injury

LSU head coach Jay Johnson provided an update on reliever Christian Little.

LSU reliever [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] was pulled from Sunday’s SEC title loss to Tennessee after experiencing pain following a pitch. Little was in visible discomfort, which is never a good sign given the nature of pitching injuries in baseball.

LSU coach [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] gave an update on Little after the game, saying it was a lat issue.

This is positive news for now. Little avoids a severe elbow injury. Johnson said Little wanted to throw a few more pitches, but Johnson went to the bullpen.

Little’s status remains unclear, but he would be a significant loss for an LSU bullpen that has struggled to find depth this year. Prior to the SEC Tournament, Little held opponents scoreless in seven of his last nine outings. His experience would be useful in the postseason, too. This is his fourth year of SEC baseball after starting his career at Vanderbilt.

Prior to exiting on Sunday, Little had pitched a scoreless inning while recording two strikeouts.

Due to his early season struggles, Little’s ERA is still 6.47, but that doesn’t reflect the pitcher he’s been lately.

LSU will have to wait until Monday to find out its regional destination, but many expect the Tigers to be a No. 2 seed after their eventful SEC Tournament run.

LSU’s Steven Milam discusses walk off homer against South Carolina

LSU’s Steven Milam was the hero on Sunday, sending LSU to the SEC title with a walk off homer.

[autotag]Steven Milam[/autotag] played hero for LSU on Saturday evening. Following a chaotic sequence that led to South Carolina taking the lead on a catcher’s interference call in the top of the tenth, Milam hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the inning and put LSU in position to play for a conference title on Sunday.

“I don’t even know how to describe it,” Milam told SEC Network’s Kris Budden after the game.

“We just kept fighting back. That’s just how we’ve been. We learned from our losses. We learned from that tough stretch we went through. Now look at us, Milam said.

Milam said he saw South Carolina’s Garrett Gainey miss fastballs high when pitching to Hayden Travinski. Milam went up there looking for another mistake high and that’s what he got.

It capped off a three-hit, two-run day for Milam, who’s been red hot throughout the SEC Tournament.

The Tigers will look to keep the magic going in the SEC championship tomorrow.

“It felt amazing, but we’re not done yet. We got another game tomorrow,” Milam said.

Best photos from LSU baseball’s walk-off win over South Carolina in SEC semifinals

Steven Milam walked it off as the Tigers move on to Sunday’s SEC championship game.

It looked like the LSU baseball team was heading for a run-rule loss in the early goings of Saturday’s SEC tournament semifinal against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

LSU found itself down 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, but a six-spot in that frame got the Tigers back in the game. They ultimately forced extra innings, where they walked it off in the bottom of the 10th with a two-run homer from [autotag]Steven Milam[/autotag].

With the victory, coach Jay Johnson’s team moves on to the SEC championship on Sunday, where it will face either Tennessee or Vanderbilt. In the meantime, here are the best photos from Saturday’s win over the Gamecocks.

Michael Braswell III addresses heroics against former team South Carolina in SEC tournament

Michael Braswell III drove in the game-winning run against his former team on Thursday night.

When LSU was looking to complete its comeback against South Carolina in the winners’ bracket of the SEC tournament on Thursday night, [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] came up clutch against his former team.

He drove in what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning, leading LSU past the Gamecocks and into the conference semifinals.

After the game, Braswell said it was one of his happiest moments as a baseball player. He also addressed some recent drama on social media.

“I mean, I couldn’t find a moment where I’ve been happier in the sport of baseball, honestly,” he said, according to Zack Nagy of LSU Country. “I have respect for the South Carolina program, but I’m an LSU Tiger, and there’s been a lot of social media things going on in the last recent days, and to get that hit really kind of gave me satisfaction for a lot of things. It meant the world to me.”

LSU entered the week potentially needing to do some work to make the NCAA tournament. Now, it’s likely a lock for that and could even be pushing for a No. 2 seed.

Photos from LSU baseball’s SEC tournament win over South Carolina

The Tigers punched their ticket to the SEC semifinals on Thursday night.

The LSU baseball team had already likely solidified an NCAA tournament spot with wins in its first two games in Hoover at the SEC tournament, and on Thursday night, it punched its ticket to the conference semifinals as it seeks a No. 2 seed in the postseason.

The Tigers trailed 10-7 in the seventh inning, but four runs in the final two frames — including an RBI single from former Gamecock Michael Braswell III that proved to be the game-winner in the top of the ninth — solidified an 11-10 win for LSU.

Now, coach Jay Johnson’s team moves on to face either Kentucky or South Carolina again in the semifinals on Saturday. In the meantime, here are the best photos from the win.

Former Gamecock Michael Braswell serves as the hero for LSU in win over South Carolina

On Tuesday, Michael Braswell III clapped back at a Gamecock fans’ Twitter account. On Thursday, he clapped back against his old team.

On Tuesday, [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] clapped back at a Gamecock fans’ Twitter account. On Thursday, he clapped back against his old team.

In what has been the greatest game of the SEC tournament so far, Braswell served as the hero for the Tigers as his RBI single gave the Tigers a one-run lead in the top of the ninth inning and led to an 11-10 win over South Carolina to move LSU to 3-0 in the tournament.

Now, let’s rewind. How did we get to 11-10? LSU scored the first run of the game on an RBI single by Stephen Milam to give LSU a 1-0 lead.

[autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] got the start on the mound for LSU and he struck out five of the first six hitters he faced to start the game. He ran into trouble in the third inning, though. An RBI double chased him from the mound and [autotag]Nate Ackenhausen[/autotag] was greeted with a grand slam to give Carolina a 5-1 lead after three innings.

in the top of the fourth inning, LSU clawed back into the game as they tied it up with four runs of their own. [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit an RBI double, Milam hit an RBI single, and [autotag]Jake Brown[/autotag] hit a two-run homer to tie the game 5-5.

In the top of the fifth inning, Jared Jones hit a solo shot to give LSU a 6-5 lead.

South Carolina scored a run to tie it up in the bottom of the fifth inning and then [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] gave the Tigers the lead again in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI groundout to make it 7-6 Tigers.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Gamecocks scored four runs to give them a 10-7 lead. In the top of the eighth, two LSU runners scored on an error to cut the lead to 10-9.

LSU entered the top of the ninth inning down 10-9, needing at least one run to keep the game going. Milam started the inning off with a single and Brown followed that with another single to put runners on first and second base. [autotag]Ashton Larson[/autotag] flew out for out number one, but Paxton Kling advanced to third on the flyout. Brown would then steal second to put runners on second and third with one out. [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] then hit a sacrifice fly to the wall to tie the game 10-10. Then, magic happened. Braswell III stepped up and hit an RBI single to give the Tigers an 11-10 lead.

[autotag]Fidel Ulloa[/autotag] closed out the win in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Tigers won 11-10! LSU will now get a day off before playing in a single elimination semifinal game on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT. LSU will play the winner of Kentucky/South Carolina.

Tommy White explains love for LSU baseball as Tigers make postseason push

“I do it for the guys before me,” Tommy White said. “The guys last year, the guys before that.”

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth against Kentucky, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] punched LSU’s ticket to the winners’ bracket at the SEC tournament with a grand slam to put the Tigers up 11-0 and above the run-rule margin.

That ultimately proved to be the final score as White was one of two players to hit a grand slam in the game — joining [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] — as LSU became the first team to hit multiple in the same SEC tournament contest.

This season will almost certainly be White’s last with the Tigers. He’s a projected first-round pick in the 2024 MLB draft after two fantastic seasons as a transfer addition from NC State.

And while White didn’t commit to the Tigers out of high school, he doesn’t want his time with the program to end. A strong surge from bats like White’s has put LSU in a position to make the NCAA tournament, which seemed like quite an improbability just a few weeks ago.

After the win over the Wildcats, White explained his love for the program that he joined as a transfer two years ago.

“I do it for the guys before me,” White said, per On3. “The guys last year, the guys before that. I feel like the guys here now and myself owe them all something to give it everything we got for the time being or whatever we have left. The guys before me, I see how they do it or how they run this program, how they show up, keep coming back. I’m going to continue to do that. This means way too much to me, so I’m not going to take (the jersey) off right now.”

Wednesday’s win likely all but sealed LSU’s spot in the NCAA tournament, but its run in Hoover isn’t over yet. The Tigers will face either South Carolina or Arkansas in the winners’ bracket at 4:30 p.m. CT on Thursday.

LSU baseball becomes first team to hit 2 grand slams in same SEC tournament game

Jared Jones and Tommy White made SEC tournament history on Wednesday.

In the top of the seventh inning of Wednesday’s SEC tournament outing against Kentucky, [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] broke a 2-0 game wide open with a grand slam to put the Tigers up six runs.

If that wasn’t enough, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] did the same in the eighth as the Tigers jumped out to an 11-0 lead against the No. 3-seeded Wildcats, co-champions of the SEC.

That second grand slam from White marked a bit of history for LSU, which became the first team in SEC tournament history to hit two grand slams in the same game.

LSU’s bats showed up to Hoover this week when needed. It entered the week on the bubble but has perhaps played its way off after a 9-1 win over Georgia in the opening round leading into Wednesday’s huge performance.

After LSU’s 11-0 run-rule win over the Wildcats, it will face either Arkansas or South Carolina in the winners’ bracket on Thursday.

Alabama baseball loses to South Carolina 10-5 in SEC Baseball Tournament

Alabama baseball bounced from SEC Tournament by South Carolina

On a beautiful day from Hoover, Rob Vaughn and the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team were bounced from the 2024 SEC Baseball Tournament by the South Carolina Gamecocks 10-5. Now the Crimson Tide will have to wait until the weekend to see what the remainder of the 2024 college baseball season will bring.

After building an early 2-0 lead after two innings, Alabama’s pitching struggled to hold onto it allowing a six-run third inning which gave South Carolina a lead they would never lose.

Alabama will head back to Tuscaloosa and await its postseason fate while the Gamecocks will move on to the double-elimination portion of the bracket where they will take on No. 2 Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover the Alabama baseball team as the postseason progresses.
