Former 5-star forward commits to Ohio State in transfer portal

The Ohio State Buckeyes landed a commitment from former Duke five-star forward Sean Stewart in the transfer portal.

Former Duke forward Sean Stewart, a five-star prospect and McDonald’s All-American in 2023, has committed to Jake Diebler and the Ohio State Buckeyes out of the transfer portal.

Stewart becomes Ohio State’s fourth portal addition so far this offseason, joining former Kentucky big man Aaron Bradshaw, South Carolina guard Meechie Johnson, and San Diego State wing Micah Parrish.

Diebler recruited Stewart out of high school as an assistant coach with the Buckeyes, and while the 6’9 forward picked Duke at time, he finds himself in Columbus one year later: and he’s ready to prove himself after playing sparingly as a freshman in Durham.

“I just want to show people what I can do; really help my team win,” he said. “We have a really talented team. I know we can make it far, so I just really want to be a focal point of the team to help us get to where we want to go. I’m going to be in the gym, working as hard as I can to help us get there.”

Stewart appeared in 33 games for the Blue Devils last season, averaging 8.3 minutes, 2.6 points, and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 57.1% from the floor.

Now he’ll join a frontcourt at Ohio State that includes Bradshaw, another top prospect from the 2023 class, as this Buckeyes team looks to put a disappointing season in the rearview mirror and compete in the expanded Big Ten in 2024-25.
