What we learned in Cowboys 33-13 win over Eagles includes Dan Quinn’s big-game redemption

The Cowboys learned the defense is getting better, Ferguson is for real and Prescott doesn’t always need to be super man in Week 14

It was a game approached with eager anticipation. From the moment the final whistle blew in their 28-23 loss in Philadelphia five weeks ago, the Cowboys had the rematch circled on the calendar. Dallas felt they were the better team in their first match-up. A series of bad bounces, questionable calls, and fluke occurrences all seemed to rob them of a representative outcome that day. Week 14 was their chance to prove it.

And prove it the Cowboys did. Dallas scored on their first drive and never looked back. If it wasn’t for a Dak Prescott sack-fumble returned for touchdown in the third quarter, the game never felt close. They claimed a win probability of 75% in the first quarter and never let it drop below.

With the win, Dallas proved they didn’t just beat up bad teams, but showed they beat up really good teams as well. It added legitimacy to their efforts this season and put the NFL on notice that they are not the same team who stumbled through the dark earlier in the year.

Twitter reacts to Cowboys’ dismantling of Eagles facade in Week 14

A quick look at social media reactions after Dallas came through with a dominating performance against the team with the NFL’s best record.

The Philadelphia Eagles entered the contest with the NFL’s best record. Sitting at 10-2 and with a Week 9 victory in hand, the Eagles had a chance to lock in a playoff berth and all but secure the NFC East title with four weeks remaining. Instead, they now have a ton of questions after the Dallas Cowboys handed them their second straight blowout loss, 33-13.

The Cowboys dominated in all three phases over their division rivals, and as such the fanbase enjoyed being able to celebrate a dominant victory that evened both teams records at 10-3 on the season. Here’s a look at a handful of social media reactions to the win.

The Cowboys embarrassed a rival on the big stage and beat the team with the best record in the league heading into the week. Regular season wins don’t get much better. Here are the studs and duds for the Cowboys in the Week 14 blowout win.

The Dallas Cowboys secured their fifth straight victory on Sunday night, taking down the Philadelphia Eagles by the final score of 33-13. It was a hard-fought and well-deserved win that moved the teams into a tie atop the division with 10-3 records for each with four games remaining.

Here are all of the fantastic captures from the action as the Cowboys celebrate their 15th consecutive win at AT&T Stadium.

Cowboys rise to occassion, subjugate Eagles in dominant 33-13 win

The Cowboys improve to 10-3 on the season with a 20-point victory over their division rival.

The Cowboys have received a reputation over the last few years that has been undeserved. Because of a few failures, they’ve been labeled with the narrative of never being able to win a big game. Of course, that’s nonsense. The Cowboys haven’t advanced to a Championship Game or Super Bowl, but they’ve won plenty of regular season big games and early rounders in the playoffs.

So far this year, they’ve been 0fer against the best competition, which only enhanced the narrative. But on Sunday night, they laid that to rest. Not only did they succeed in taking down a top opponent, at several points in the game, Dallas made the big plays necessary to keep a comfortable advantage and emerge 30-13 victors in Week 14.

Brandon Aubrey nailed three long-distance kicks, from 60, 59 and 50 yards respectfully. Near the end of the third quarter, with the Eagles driving and down 14, they made a crucial fourth down stop. In the red zone, the offense went three for three in scoring touchdowns, increasing their incredible run since the Giants game by making 18 of their last 24 conversion. The Dan Quinn defense saw the Eagles make it into Dallas territory five times. All they did was force two field goal attempts and strip the ball three times.

In the first meeting between the teams in Week 9, Philly fumbled three times but recovered all three in a 28-23 victory. This time, Dallas pounced on all three of them to maintain a big margin throughout the contest.

Dallas’ defense didn’t allow the opposition to score a touchdown for the third time this season. The offense continues to hum and the Cowboys improve to 10-3 on the season.

Cowboys DT Johnathan Hankins carted to locker room with right leg injury

The Dallas Cowboys have done no wrong so far with their play on the field, but there is a bit of a cause for concern as the second half gets underway. On the Philadelphia Eagles opening drive of the third quarter, defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins was injured.

Following a run by De’Andre Switft, Hankins remained on the ground and needed to be attended to by the team’s medical staff. When Dallas was on offense following a second forced fumble and recovery, Hankins was on a cart, with his right shoe off, heading to the locker room for further evaluation.

Hopefully the injury isn’t too severe and Hankins is able to still help Dallas in the very near future. The team’s lone successful run-stuffing DT, Hankins is integral to the team’s hopes against the gauntlet of opponents on their remaining schedule and for the rest of this game.

LOOK: Cowboys continue 1st-half domination with Prescott-Gallup TD

The Cowboys have opened up a commanding lead at the half of their Week 14 showdown.

The Dallas Cowboys had a point to prove entering their Week 14 showdown. Through the first half, they’ve made that point with exclamations. The Cowboys offense scored on all four of their first-half possessions, including a 60-yard field goal by rookie kicker Brandon Aubrey and bookended by two Dak Prescott passing touchdowns.

After stopping the Eagles’ last drive of the first half and forcing them into a made field goal, the Cowboys got the ball back with under two minutes remaining. That proved to be more than enough time for Dak Prescott and company as they marched down the field for their third 75-yard touchdown drive of the game.

The big play was a Prescott deep seam pass to WR Brandin Cooks down to the one-yard line, which they followed up with a one-yard toss to Michael Gallup.

The score prevented the Eagles from having the final points of the half and getting the ball back to start the third quarter. Dallas leads 24-6 with 30 minutes left to go.

WATCH: Prescott, Cowboys start strong, take lead on TD toss to CeeDee Lamb

The Cowboys opened with the ball and marched downfield for the quick score to start Week 14 off.

The Dallas Cowboys knew the ask, and they started in the best way possible. Given the ball first in Week 14 after the Philadelphia Eagles won the toss, the offense had one directive; score. Using a variety of passes and runs that’s exactly what Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy did.

Starting the game with a couple passes to halfback Tony Pollard, the run game got off to a strong start when WR Kavontae Turpin took a 3rd-and-1 end around for 22 yards. A few plays later, Prescott was completing his fourth pass in five attempts, finding a wide open CeeDee Lamb for the red-zone score.

Cowboys-Eagles inactives: Parsons will play, all hands on deck for SNF

The Cowboys and Eagles are a full-go for Sunday Night Football as Micah Parsons is active following a late illness designation.

No mere illness will stop Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons from taking the field on Sunday Night Football against the Eagles. Initial concern heightened when the Dallas defender was added to the injury report, but he’s active for the divisional affair.

With that settled, both teams are considered a full-go with the active rosters entirely present for Cowboys-Eagles. Running back Deuce Vaughn is inactive, so it’ll be the pair of Tony Pollard and Rico Dowdle leading the charge in the Dallas backfield.

It’s a clean report on the Philadelphia side, and both teams gave some key veterans rest during the week. Here’s the full list of inactives ahead of Cowboys-Eagles on at 7:20 p.m., televised on NBC.

Cowboys-Eagles Week 14 gameday bible: Rooting guide, top prop bets, how to stream

After 10 days off to heal nicks and bruises, and mentally focus on the coming stretch, it’s finally game day for the Dallas Cowboys. Winners of four straight, the Cowboys are now in the meaty part of their 2023 schedule. When first announced, the gauntlet was meant to have two equally challenging parts. Facing both New York teams, including the Giants twice, was supposed to mean three playoff teams on top of the San Francisco 49ers and the first matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Major regression to the mean happened for Brian Daboll’s troops and a Week 1 injury to Aaron Rodgers turned those contests into laughers. The other five tough contests have arrived, with the Cowboys taking out the Seattle Seahawks in a tasty Week 13 appetizer. That was the tune up; Sunday night’s rematch against the Eagles is the one of the main courses to be followed by road trips to Buffalo and Miami before returning home for the upstart Detroit Lions.

And while all of the games matter in the grand scheme of things, they lose some steam if the Cowboys aren’t able to even the series and the season-long records with the Eagles. From the perspective of winning the division and chasing a bye, this is a must-win game for the Cowboys. But they’ll have to wait through a days worth of action where those games could have an impact on Dallas’ pursuit as well.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to cheer during those games, how to wager on the Cowboys-Eagles matchup and how to catch the action if you’re away from your TV screens.
