3 major takeaways as Cowboys pass the quarter pole of the 2023 season

After Dallas took out the Eagles, there are major takeaways to how the first 3/4 of the season have played out. | From @cdpiglet

The Dallas Cowboys are continuing to answer questions, eliminating excuses and narratives. Prior to the midpoint of the 2023 season, many said the defense is excellent but the offense can’t win games if they had to. Now, the offense might be their best unit. Could they execute in close games, or do they just win in blowouts? The Los Angeles Chargers and Seattle Seahawks were both close victories. They asked what would happen when they played teams with a winning record. The Philadelphia Eagles had the best record and were beaten.

So what’s next?

With every week that has passed, Dallas has continued to win and win big in the majority of their games. There isn’t any doubt the 10-2 Philadelphia Eagles were a good team, sporting the best record in the league going into the contest. The Cowboys beat them like they beat most every other team at AT&T Stadium.

The offense is one of the best in the league. The defense held Philadelphia to six points and forced three turnovers. They have the best kicker in football for times when the offense stalls, making all of his kicks no matter how long distance. The team is on fire, and acknowledging the reasons why are the big takeaways as the season enters its final four games.

Studs and Duds: All 3 phases set to stun in Cowboys’ 20-point win over Eagles

All 3 phases had standout studs for the Cowboys in their win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14. | From @BenGrimaldi

The Dallas Cowboys have been waiting five weeks to get another shot at the Philadelphia Eagles, and they didn’t come up short this time around. In their 15th straight win at home, and seventh in a row to start this year, the Cowboys evened the score with the Eagles with the 33-13 win in Week 14.

It was another dominating performance at AT&T Stadium and the fifth win in a row for the Cowboys. In their seven wins at home this season, six of them have been by at least 20 points. Dallas dominated in all three phases to beat the Eagles and take over first place in the NFC East.

The Cowboys embarrassed a rival on the big stage and beat the team with the best record in the league heading into the week. Regular season wins don’t get much better. Here are the studs and duds for the Cowboys in the Week 14 blowout win.

Brandon Aubrey’s assault on NFL kicking hierarchy takes center stage in Week 14

If Dallas wanted to keep their hopes for an NFC East championship alive they needed a win against the first-place Philadelphia Eagles. They delivered.

Unlike last week, Dallas didn’t allow the opponent endless paths to the end zone. In fact, they kept the opposing offense out of it entirely. The Cowboys  offense wasn’t firing like they have in past week, but luckily they have the hottest kicker in the league. Rookie Brandon Aubrey showed his season-long consistency as he outscored the opponent all by himself in the Cowboys’ 33-13 win.

Already up 7-0 with under a minute remaining in the first, Aubrey nailed a career long 60-yard kick with absolute ease.

Midway through the third, Aubrey makes a nearly identical kick to put Dallas up 14.

He’d go on to make two more of 45  and 50 yards, respectively, while going 3-3 on extra points to secure the Cowboys victory. His streak of perfection is still on as Dallas looks to face the elements of Buffalo next week.

6 things to know about the Eagles include their night and day defensive units

A QB weapon and a bad secondary are among the things to know about the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 14 opponent, the Philaedelphia Eagles. | From @BenGrimaldi

The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to face their most hated rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, in a Week 14 showdown that gives the winner the lead in the NFC East. It might be short-lived for the Cowboys, but it’s a big game none the less. This is a rematch of a meeting from earlier in the season where Dallas fell just short, literally inches, on more than one occasion. Now, the Cowboys get their division foes at home, where they’ve won 14 straight games.

Regular season games don’t get much bigger than this, and for the Cowboys a victory would mean shutting up the large group of haters who continue to say they haven’t beaten anybody on their way to nine wins. Beat the Eagles and that complaint goes away to usher in a new excuse to disparage Jerry Jones’ team. Here are six things to know about the Eagles in the Week 14 rematch.

Here’s how Cowboys can beat the Eagles: Avoiding laundry, stressing seams

Dallas will need to play with discipline and take advantage of the Eagles’ secondary in order to pull out a victory, says @cdpiglet.

The Dallas Cowboys extended their home undefeated streak to 14 straight games Thursday night, but it was unlike any game at AT&T Stadium thus far in the 2023 season. The Cowboys weren’t sitting their starters with a significant lead in the fourth quarter. Instead, they needed nearly every second to put away the Seattle Seahawks 41-35. The offense showed up like they have every game since their bye week. Dak Prescott continued to play like an MVP candidate, and CeeDee Lamb kept up his dominant performances in 2023.

The defense was a surprising letdown,  but they came up with big stops late to help seal the victory for Dallas.  That was enough against Seattle, but if the Cowboys want to beat the 10-2 Philadelphia Eagles, the offense must continue to carry a considerable burden, and the defense will also need to play much better. Here are some things the team must do to beat Philadelphia and take over the lead in the NFC East.

Sizing up Cowboys-Eagles rematch for NFC East lead

An NFC East title and strength versus weakness makes the Week 14 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles interesting. | From @BenGrimaldi

The NFC East has reached their crown jewel game of the season when the Philadelphia Eagles travel to play the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14. Whoever wins will own first place in the division and their fans will have bragging rights for the immediate future, which is something highly coveted for huge swaths of the fanbases.

In the first matchup, the game went down to the wire and the Eagles escaped with the 28-23 win at home. It was the last time the Cowboys lost and also the last time they were held under 30 points on the season.

Things could be different this time around with the Cowboys now at home and peaking. This game has the feel of an old-school tilt between the two heated rivals and with social media now involved, the bitterness is ramped up to an all-time high.

Here’s where each team stands ahead of their second matchup in Week 14.

Prescott is dealing once again, giving Cowboys hope despite loss

Prescott was dealing for the second game in a row, showing he and the coordinated offense might be hitting their stride at the right time. | From @TimLettiero

Divisional games are always a different beast and the lead-up to this midseason clash had the league on alert. Coming off three decisive victories and their bye week, the Dallas Cowboys came in riding high. Philaelphia, however, was riding higher as they sat 7-1 atop not just the NFC East but the entire league.

Despite a rough opening drive, Mike McCarthy and company righted the ship, but couldn’t quite eek out the win, dropping Dallas to 5-3. Doing everything he could to pull his team through, quarterback Dak Prescott had a sensational game despite facing a mountain of pressure all game.

Prescott finished the game with 374 passing yards on 29 completions with three scores, boasting a +6 CPOE. While not his most surgical performance, Prescott was still the backbone of a successful offensive outing.

Down 7-0, Prescott returned the favor with an emphatic drive capped off by a fourth-down conversion to WR CeeDee Lamb and a touchdown to TE Jake Ferguson

Still 7-7 early in the second, Dallas found themselves in enemy territory looking to take the lead. On 3rd-and-14, Prescott steps up and scrambles right away from pressure and finds Lamb for a crucial conversion.

Later on the same drive, Dallas faces another third down, this time on the goal line. Prescott drops back at the five-yard line and fires a bullet into the arms of WR KaVontae Turpin for the score.

Following the Turpin touchdown, the Dallas offense saw the ball only twice before the fourth quarter. This allowed Philadelphia to take a 28-17 lead before Dallas started their comeback. Marching downfield, Prescott looked to take matters into his own hands as he nearly supermanned his way into the endzone.

On the very next play, Prescott found rookie TE Luke Schoonmaker on what was initially thought to be a score before he was found to be just inches short, turning the ball over on downs.

The Cowboy’s defense managed to get some clutch stops which gave the offense another chance to keep the game close. Prescott found the second-year man WR Jalen Tolbert for his first career touchdown to make it a one-score game.

Dallas was unable to seal the deal given multiple opportunities but Prescott is still white hot going into their second meeting with the New York Giants.
