WATCH: Cowboys great DeMarcus Ware sings national anthem at Hall of Fame Game

From @ToddBrock24f7: He’ll be inducted this weekend, but the former Cowboy and Bronco said performing the pregame song would be the bigger strain on his nerves.

Hall of Fame Week is a wild jumble of emotions for the enshrinees each year. But for longtime Cowboys defensive superstar DeMarcus Ware, the hardest part is already over.

The franchise’s all-time sacks leader performed the national anthem before a packed house and a national television audience Thursday evening from Canton, Ohio.

The linebacker, a nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion who had played in his share of huge games, had previously confessed that the honor of singing the “Star-Spangled Banner” prior to kickoff of the Hall of Fame Game between the Browns and Jets had him more nervous than he had ever been in his 41 years.

“You can never be ready for that,” Ware said per the Dallas Morning News. “There’s ways you can prepare for it and have ample amount of vocal lessons. But when you get up there and when the crowd goes silent, it’s your turn to get up there and sing to the whole United States of America on what it stands for. And that is huge.”

The Alabama native grew up in a musical family; his mother and uncle were singers, and Ware himself was the vocalist in a band in high school.

Technically speaking, Ware’s rendition of the anthem was less than pitch-perfect, as many on social media were quick to point out.

But the moment had extra special meaning for the former Cowboy and Bronco who will take his place among the football immortals on Saturday. Ware said the song would be dedicated to the late Demaryius Thomas, his teammate who passed away in 2021. Ware and the wide receiver used to sing the anthem together on the Denver sideline prior to games.

And to kick off a football weekend where emotions tend to supersede the actual Xs and Os of the preseason, Ware’s heartfelt anthem may have gotten things off on just the right note.

Bears will conduct joint practices with Colts this summer

The Bears and Colts will hold joint practices ahead of their Aug. 19 preseason game.

[connatix div_id=”3f8b015acdd24c648befc5d5dac47469″ player_id=”afe1e038-d3c2-49c0-922d-6511a229f69c” cid=”7cbcea0d-4ce2-4c75-9a8d-fbe02a192c24″]

The Chicago Bears will conduct their training camp starting in late July, which will include three preseason games. While the Bears didn’t have any joint practices last summer, that’s going to change this year.

Indianapolis will host Chicago for a set of joint practices ahead of their Aug. 19 preseason game at Lucas Oil Stadium, Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced Friday. This news comes after a previous report from ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.

This would be the first time the Bears host joint practices under Eberflus and general manager Ryan Poles. While Eberflus said last season that he would welcome joint practices, Chicago wasn’t able to conduct joint practices last summer.

The Bears previously hosted the Miami Dolphins for joint practices in August 2021, ahead of their preseason game at Soldier Field.

Eberflus previously served as the Colts defensive coordinator from 2018-21, before taking the head coach job with the Bears in 2022. So this will serve as a homecoming for Eberflus.

2023 preseason schedule set for Jets

Preseason times have arrived

The dates and times are set for the four preseason games for the New York Jets in 2023. The Jets are playing four preseason games because they are taking part in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, August 3 against the Cleveland Browns in Canton, Ohio. The game is set for an 8:00 kickoff and will be televised on NBC.

The Jets will then visit the Carolina Panthers in the first full week of the preseason. That game will be Saturday, August 12 at 4:00 and can be seen on WCBS.

In Week 2, the Jets will be home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, August 19 for a 7:30 kickoff on WCBS.

The preseason wraps up for the Jets on Saturday, August 26 with a “road” game against the New York Giants, just like what we’ll see on Sunday, October 29. The game kicks off at 6:00 and will air on WNBC.

Cowboys announce dates, times for back-and-forth preseason schedule

From @ToddBrock24f7: Dallas will play 2 of 3 preseason games at home, but with extra travel from training camp in Oxnard (and back again) right in the middle.

There’s no elaborate video skit to accompany the news, but the Cowboys have announced the details for their 2023 preseason schedule.

And it will necessitate an extra bit of summer travel.

Players fighting for a roster spot will have three chances to impress coaches in a live-game situation, twice at home and once on the West Coast, all against AFC opponents.

Dallas will kick off its preseason by hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 12 at 4 p.m. CT. Next, they’ll travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks the following Saturday evening, and then return home to finish the exhibition slate against the Las Vegas Raiders with a 7 p.m. start on Aug. 26.

Dates for the Cowboys’ annual summer visit to Oxnard have not been finalized, but Todd Archer of ESPN reports that the team will fly home from training camp to play the Jaguars game and then return to California for another week of practice leading up to the Seattle trip before finally coming home for good.

This year’s preseason contests are being squeezed into a busy schedule of major events at JerryWorld. The stadium will play host to a preseason soccer “friendly” between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid as part of the 2023 Soccer Champions Tour on July 29. That match is expected to draw a massive crowd just two weeks before the Cowboys’ preseason opener.

Then, once the Cowboys leave town again and invade the Pacific Northwest over the second preseason weekend, heavy metal band Metallica sets up shop at AT&T for Friday and Sunday concerts, pulling out in time for the team to play their preseason finale against the Raiders six days later.

The Cowboys will then hit the road again, opening their regular season with an away game versus the Giants on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Report: Bears to conduct joint practices with Colts this summer

It sounds like the Bears and Colts will hold joint practices this summer ahead of their preseason matchup.

[connatix div_id=”3f8b015acdd24c648befc5d5dac47469″ player_id=”afe1e038-d3c2-49c0-922d-6511a229f69c” cid=”7cbcea0d-4ce2-4c75-9a8d-fbe02a192c24″]

Joint practices have become common practice among NFL teams in the preseason, and it sounds like it’s in the cards for the Chicago Bears this summer.

The Bears will conduct multiple days of joint practices with the Indianapolis Colts during training camp, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.

Chicago and Indianapolis will face off in the preseason on Aug. 19, and the two teams will get some extra work against each other in the days leading up.

This would be the first time the Bears host joint practices under head coach Matt Eberflus and general manager Ryan Poles. While Eberflus said last season that he would welcome joint practices, Chicago wasn’t able to conduct joint practices last summer.
