The Super Bowl is over, Sean Payton is off to coach Denver, and we have the first round NFL Draft order.

For now.

This will/should change up several times in several ways over the next several weeks in what should be among the craziest drafts ever for trades.

With that said, as always, there are no projected trades here – mock drafts should always be played straight until a trade is done, or there’s a credible enough report to suggest something big is about to happen. That doesn’t mean there isn’t some acknowledgement of what the latest rumors are.

Here’s the best guess idea for each team along with why the pick makes sense.

31 Kansas City

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Anton Harrison OT Oklahoma
Previous Mock Draft Call: Dalton Kincaid TE Utah

Kansas City does what it does when it comes to the draft, with perceived value not that big of a deal. But who’s complaining? Ten rookies played a role in the Super Bowl? That’s insane. Wide receiver would be nice, but finding more versatile protection for 15 matters more than anything else.

30 Philadelphia

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Jahmyr Gibbs, RB Alabama
Previous Mock Draft Call: Isaiah Foskey EDGE Notre Dame

The Eagles need lots and lots of defense considering what they’re likely going to lose in free agency, but there’s also the possibility of losing some of the backs in the rotation, too. Again, defense and more defense, but … here’s the call. The Eagles go Texas RB Bijan Robinson at the 10 and defense here, or defense with the earlier pick and the perfect fit of Gibbs here.

29 New Orleans (from Denver)

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Isaiah Foskey EDGE Notre Dame
Previous Mock Draft Call: John Michael Schmitz C Minnesota

The Saints might be in the trading derby to move up to get a quarterback. They also need more playmakers on the defensive front, and Foskey is a versatile option who’d be an instant starter.

28 Cincinnati

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Dalton Kincaid TE Utah
Previous Mock Draft Call: Jaelyn Duncan OT Maryland

The Bengals are in a nice place – they don’t have any screaming needs. However, they could use some upgrades and an infusion of few more options. Giving Mr. Burrow his own – in a perfect world – Travis Kelce would be fun.

27 Buffalo

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Jalin Hyatt WR Tennessee
Previous Mock Draft Call: Brian Branch S Alabama

Josh Allen makes everyone else better, but even more pop at receiver would be devastating. The Bills will go high-end playmaker here and then dive in on defense and offensive line over the rest of the draft.

26 Dallas

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR Ohio State
Previous Mock Draft Call: Jordan Addison WR USC

Maybe there’s a defensive back coming off the board here – South Carolina CB Cam Smith would fit nicely. The offense doesn’t exactly need more firepower, but it could use an upgrade at No. 2 WR on the other side of CeeDee Lamb.

25 New York Giants

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Quentin Johnson WR TCU
Previous Mock Draft Call: Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR Ohio State

The Giants will be the Giants – they’ll probably find some interior lineman who ends up doing just fine – but the value is at receiver. That just so happens to be one of the team’s desperate needs.

24 Jacksonville

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Drew Sanders LB Arkansas
Previous Mock Draft Call: Anton Harrison OT Oklahoma

The defensive front needs more help, and linebacker might be a bit of a luxury item considering the other needs, but Sanders is too good to fall any further.

23 Minnesota Vikings

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Kelee Ringo CB Georgia
Previous Mock Draft Call: Cam Smith CB South Carolina

Cornerback. No matter what.

22 Baltimore Ravens

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Jordan Addison WR USC
Previous Mock Draft Call: Quentin Johnson WR TCU

Now is when the receiver run starts. Take your pick of any one of a number of star prospects, but the thought is that they’ll drop a wee bit. No matter what, it would be malpractice to not give Lamar Jackson a few elite targets to work with – assuming he’s still the Raven QB and not a, say, Buccaneer or Raider.

21 Los Angeles Chargers

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Siaki Ika DT Baylor
Previous Mock Draft Call: O’Cyrus Torrence OG Florida

Offensive line or defensive line. Ika might not be the versatile defensive lineman the Chargers might be looking for, but he’ll be an anchor to work around.

Down to just Philadelphia and Kansas City, the NFL all but has its draft order set.

Things are changing rapidly with coaching moves, rumors about various quarterbacks possibly going to places that could draft a passer in the first round, and with free agency hot stove talk heating up. All of this affects the 2023 NFL Draft.

This latest post-championship weekend mock draft reflects all of that before the next big step in the process – the NFL Combine.

Here’s the best guess idea for each team along with why the pick makes sense.

30 or 31 Philadelphia

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Isaiah Foskey EDGE Notre Dame

Will the Eagles be able to keep all the talent on the line around? With their second pick in the first round, they’ll have a shot at getting younger and even more versatile with a dangerous pass rusher like Foskey.

30 or 31 Kansas City

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Dalton Kincaid TE Utah

Travis Kelce might be rolling along, but he’s only a few months younger than Rob Gronkowski. At 33 Kelce is still fine, and adding Kincaid as the next killer receiving tight end in the rotation – and giving Patrick Mahomes yet another option – would be terrifying.

29 New Orleans (from Denver)

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Zach Harrison DE Ohio State

This 29th pick gets around. It was San Francisco’s, and then it was Miami’s, and then it was Denver’s. The Saints – who get this in the Sean Payton deal – need a quarterback, but this might be a wee bit of a stretch for Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker. They also need work on the defensive front, and Harrison is a stronger option than any of the available tackles.

28 Cincinnati

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Jaelyn Duncan OT Maryland

The offensive line was okay before the injuries started to hit. Even so, the Bengals can’t invest enough in protecting 9.

27 Buffalo

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Brian Branch S Alabama

Like last year, it’s not like Buffalo desperately needs anything. It has to get a guard, and another wide receiver would be a plus, but those areas can be dealt with later. Branch is a versatile tough guy of a safety who would step right into an already good situation.

26 Dallas

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Jordan Addison WR USC

The change in offensive coordinator should mean one thing – more help for Dak. The Cowboys need an elite talent on the other side of CeeDee Lamb.

25 New York Giants

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR Ohio State

The Giants have better wide receiver talent than it might seem, but they don’t have a big-time No. 1 to make defenses worry. The wide receivers will be too tempting to pass up in the mid-to-late part of the first round.

24 Jacksonville

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Anton Harrison OT Oklahoma

The Jaguars are in a nice spot. It’s a deep first round and they can go the Best Player Available route if they choose. More help on the O line to protect Trevor Lawrence is the easy call if Harrison lasts this long.

23 Minnesota Vikings

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Cam Smith CB South Carolina

Another year, another Viking team that needs more talent on defense. The horrific pass D needs an infusion of prospects to repair the big, big problem.

22 Los Angeles Chargers

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: O’Cyrus Torrence OG Florida

Infrastructure can be sexy. Yes, the Chargers always seem to need offensive linemen, and yes, they always keep trying to fix the glitch. That’s just fine – they’re building something terrific.

21 Baltimore Ravens

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Quentin Johnson WR TCU

Wide receiver, wide receiver, wide receiver. Assuming Lamar Jackson is still a Raven, Baltimore has got to give the guy someone dangerous to throw to. The wide receivers will drop, and the Ravens will get their pick.

Miami forfeited the pick that would’ve been the 21

20 Seattle Seahawks

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Siaki Ika DT Baylor

Seattle has the luxury of getting a franchise-changing quarterback at the 5, and then take a solid need player here. It’s Seattle, so think as outside-the-box as you might like, but a big tackle like Ika fills a glaring hole – even if this is a tad early.

19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Bijan Robinson RB Texas

It’s way too far for Robinson to fall. There’s a chance someone who doesn’t really need a running back – think Patriots, Packers, or Texans – decides to upgrade to a gamechanger of a talent. If he’s still here, Robinson becomes an insta-fix for a rebooted franchise that will start to run at least a little bit. Also, this is assuming some terrific free agent quarterback will want to live the Tampa life.

18 Detroit Lions

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Christian Gonzalez CB Oregon

Assuming the Lions go after a pass rusher with the sixth overall pick, now they get to fatten up a bit. They’ll go with the best cornerback still available.

17 Pittsburgh Steelers

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Devon Witherspoon CB Detroit

There’s going to be a great corner here. Whether it’s Penn State’s Joey Porter Jr. or Georgia’s Kelee Ringo, or Oregon’s Christin Gonzalez, or Witherspoon, it’s a rich area to pick from.

16 Washington Commanders

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Kelee Ringo CB Georgia

With all the talk about needing a quarterback, don’t dismiss just how promising and talented Sam Howell is. The defense needs more playmakers, too, and there are a slew of great corners on the board.

15 Green Bay Packers

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Brian Bresee DT Clemson

The Packers can get more pass catchers later. The defense has a ton of great young players, and Bresee is a versatile enough option to work somewhere up front as part of a potentially loaded front wall.

14 New England Patriots

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Lukas Van Ness DE Iowa

Flip a coin on Van Ness or Clemson DT Brian Bresee. The Patriots might need to find more offensive weapons – and Texas RB Bijan Robinson might be way too tempting here, even with talent already in the Patriot backfield – but Van Ness fits.

13 New York Jets

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Broderick Jones OT Georgia

The line needs an infusion of more talent. If Michael Mayer doesn’t fall here, the Jets will have a slew of good blockers to choose from.

12 Houston Texans (from Cleveland)

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Michael Mayer TE Notre Dame

Assuming Houston doesn’t trade away picks to move up to the 1, and assuming it goes with a quarterback with its first selection, here’s the shot to get a potentially elite safety valve receiver.

11 Tennessee Titans

2023 Mock Draft Latest Call: Paris Johnson OT Ohio State

The Titans have to get more talented on the offensive front. A wide receivers is a desperate must, but a strong lineman would be an instant fix. There’s wide receiver value later.

NFL Mock Draft: Top 23 Order and Picks Post 2023 Wild Card

Mock drafts are always a work in progress, and this year it’s going to be even more fluid than 2022.

Seriously, who had Travon Walker going No. 1 overall last year at this time?

I did my first published NFL mock draft for the college paper in 1989. Ever since nailing the first two picks – Troy Aikman to Dallas and Tony Mandarich to Green Bay, and totally whiffing everything else – I’ve had one unwavering belief I’ve never strayed from.

Never, ever, ever project a trade, and totally ignore any and every mock draft that does. You can’t make a trade happen, or even accurately project one without totally screwing up the rest of the order.

So why this pretentious ramble before getting to the fun? The Chicago Bears are going to trade the first overall pick.

They have to, and if they don’t it’s all-time draft malpractice with a combination of 1s, 2s, and 4s – along with a delightful array of meats and cheeses – there for the taking from some desperate team that needs one of the amazing quarterback prospects in this draft.

Until the Bears actually make the trade, I’m still playing this straight.

Kentucky QB Will Levis will – probably – be the first overall pick, but no, Chicago isn’t taking a quarterback and it’s not trading away Justin Fields. So for now, here’s the first NFL Mock Draft of the silly season.

The next one will be done after the Divisional Round.

2022 NFL Draft: Top 105 Prospect Analysis

2023 NFL Draft Top Pro Prospects By Position: Pre-2022 NFL Draft

NFL scouting is always an inexact science that relies on guesswork more than the community wants you to believe. That goes triple for trying to figure out what’s coming the following year.

Joe Burrow was just a sixth round projection before he cranked up his epic 2019 at LSU. Kenny Pickett? Not even on the radar before a Heisman-caliber 2021.

On the flip side, North Carolina QB Sam Howell seemed like he’d be the main man for the 2022 NFL Draft, and then he wasn’t.

One thing is for certain, though – the 2023 NFL Draft is going to be a whopper compared to the 2022 version.

Oh sure, infrastructure and great linemen can be sexy, but people tend to care about this thing when the superstar skill guys are featured. The 2021 draft was all about the quarterbacks, and 2023 should be every bit as star-studded up top.

The overall goal here is to have a starting point. We know that half the guys on these 2023 NFL Draft Position Rankings will bomb this college season, and we also know we’re missing a slew of big-time first rounders who haven’t emerged yet.

But that’s the fun. That’s why they play the games.

Who has the best combinations of talent, NFL size, NFL tools, and NFL upside to look ahead to 2023 – all while still figuring out the 2022 NFL Draft?

Here’s the first look at the 2023 NFL Draft with 15 of the most promising prospects at every position among those who will be eligible – three years out of high school.

If you don’t see your guy here – or don’t like where he’s ranked – relax. We’ll go in-depth with the more detailed lists just before the season.

2023 NFL Draft Top Pro Prospects: Pre-2022 NFL Draft

The NFL scouting process is always fluid, it’s always inexact, and it’s always going to come down to a big game here, a great performance there, and a big injury that could shake up the entire draft market.

And there’s always someone who comes out of the blue and goes from the “just a guy” category to a top ten overall must-have.

Even though trying to come up with the top 32 pro prospects – representing the potential first round NFL Draft talents – is hit-or-miss, one thing is certain when it comes to the 2023 version …

It’s going to get a LOT more attention than the 2022 draft.

2021 was an explosion of interest with five first round caliber quarterbacks to throw into the league’s star system, and while 2022 is loaded with excellent NFL prospects, it’s a whole different ball game when the skill guys are the stars.

It’s hard to get fired up about 2022 – a very, very good and deep draft – when the best quarterback prospects, the best running backs, the best pass rusher, the best tight end, and the best wide receiver are all eligible in 2023.

So who are those top pro prospects going into the 2022 college football season? The idea here is to create a starting point and a set of expectations, knowing that some of these are dead on, but at least a third of the early calls are WAY off.

And yes, there are at least 32 other prospects who could’ve made this list of the Top 32 Pro Prospects of 2023. We’ll adapt and adjust on the fly during the season.
