Injury update: Cowboys Lawrence has foot injury during 3-sack night

Demarcus Lawrence terrorized the Giants offense in the first half, but went down with a left foot injury early in the second half. | From @CDBurnett7

During their first matchup in 2022, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is having nightmares with defensive end Demarcus Lawrence. Coming into the game, Lawrence hadn’t registered a pressure although his run-stopping efforts were strong as ever.

New York rookie Evan Neal has been tasked with Lawrence, and it’s been a forgettable night, being danced by for three sacks and even more pressures. After a dominant first half, Lawrence suffered a left foot injury early in the third quarter but reached the sideline on his own.

Lawrence has been dominant against the Giants and his value for the Cowboys defense goes without saying. If he’s unable to return, it’s a huge loss for Dallas but Micah Parsons, Dorance Armstrong and others will be tasked with boosting the production in his absence.

Update:

WATCH: Cowboys’ Diggs returns to game after blindside hit sends him to tent

The Cowboys’ star corner spent time with trainers after a blindside hit from Sterling Shepard late in the first half versus New York. | From @CDBurnett7

On the final drive of the first half for the Giants, New York was backed into a 3rd-and-13. With no one open, Sterling Shepard crossed paths with Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs over the middle.

Shepard was running a route on Anthony Brown while Kenny Golladay was trailed by Diggs, who never saw Shepard. The Giants receiver left his feet and his shoulder went straight into Diggs’ upper body. The hit was called for offensive pass interference, stalling the New York drive, but Diggs was down holding his head after the contact.

Diggs reached the sideline without extra help and went to the medical tent to be checked for an undisclosed injury. The time with trainers was a short one and Diggs was back with his helmet on the sideline.

Diggs returned to the field to start the second half, but it was a scary moment for Dallas fans as the cornerback with 11 interceptions in 2021 left the field. The Cowboys defense, led by Diggs with two pass breakups, froze the Giants offense for just three points in the first half.

Watch the refs ridiculously blow DPI, cost Cowboys TD after big Pollard run

After entering the red zone thanks to an electric 46-yard run, the referees missed Noah Brown mugged in the endzone, killing the drive. | From @CDBurnett7

After two drives with Matt Farniok at left guard, the Cowboys moved Jason Peters into the role. The returns came on the first play with Peters as running back Tony Pollard broke loose behind the nine-time Pro Bowler.

Following the 46-yard gain, Dallas set up shop in the Giants’ red zone and looked poised to score the first touchdown of the game. After a pair of short gains on first and second down, quarterback Cooper Rush threw an anticipation throw intended for wide receiver Noah Brown, who was dragged to the ground by a New York defender.

In a case of home cooking, the referees kept the laundry in their pockets and there was clear frustration from the Cowboys on the field and the sideline. Dallas still came out of the drive with a field goal, but it could’ve been a touchdown after a penalty in the endzone.

WATCH: Dorance Armstrong silences strong Giants drive with FG block

Following a strong first drive from the Giants, Dorance Armstrong kept the game scoreless by denying the 47-yard field goal attempt. | From @CDBurnett7

After the Cowboys’ offense had their first drive stifled by a untimely holding penalty, the Giants and Brian Daboll came out with a strong set of plays to counter a Dallas defense with momentum heading into the week.

The mix of quick throws and misdirection kept quarterback Daniel Jones clean except for a sack by defensive end Demarcus Lawrence, his first of the season. Once New York entered Dallas territory, Jones started flirting with danger, otherwise known as cornerback Trevon Diggs, who came close to an interception before the Giants were forced to settle for a 47-yard field goal. Defensive end Dorance Armstrong had other plans.

Armstrong’s blocked field goal keeps it a scoreless game as the Cowboys take over on offense for their second drive following the momentum shift.

Rookie WR Jalen Tolbert to debut, Cowboys-Giants announce Week 3 inactives

The Cowboys third-round pick makes his NFL debut while a pair of key weapons are inactive for the Dallas offense in New York. @CDBurnett7 breaks down the broken down.

The Cowboys have spent the first two games of 2022 with limited weapons on the outside for quarterbacks Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush. Third-round pick Jalen Tolbert was thrust into high expectations immediately after the draft considering the glaring need at receiver.

After spending the first two games as a healthy scratch, Tolbert will make his NFL debut in MetLife Stadium against the Giants. While he adds to the arsenal, wide receiver Michael Gallup is inactive after early hope that he would be making his 2022 debut against New York.

Tight end Dalton Schultz went through normal pregame routines, testing his right knee after an injury suffered in Week 2 but he’ll be taking the night off in New York to prepare for Washington. Backups Jake Ferguson and Sean McKeon are expected to take over extra snaps in his absence.

Nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters will make his Dallas debut against a team he’s spent over a decade lining up against. Peters may take the place of left guard Connor McGovern, who is inactive for a second straight week with an ankle injury suffered against the Buccaneers. Prescott got the stitches out of his hand but he’s still working back from the fractured thumb he suffered in the season opener.

On the defense, safety Jayron Kearse is inactive for a second straight week, another player who went down with an injury in Week 1. Linebacker Luke Gifford and cornerback Nahson Wright round out the seven Cowboys inactives, opening the door for linebacker Jabril Cox to get playing time after a torn ACL in 2021.

Fifht-overall pick Kayvon Thibodeaux will make his NFL debut for the Giants while Azeez Ojulari is back in the lineup, boosting New York up front while Leonard Williams is held out with a knee injury.

Wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who lit up the Cowboys for 189 yards last season is inactive as well as running mate Wan’Dale Robinson. The Giants have three inactive cornerbacks: Aaron Robinson, Justin Layne and Nick McCloud. Robinson had five tackles against Tennessee and has earned starting snaps for New York. Linebacker Tomon Fox is also inactive, making it seven for both teams.

2022’s first installment Cowboys-Giants kicks off at 7:15 p.m. CT, broadcast on ABC and ESPN.

Cowboys add Peters, elevate QB and TE to 55-man roster ahead of Giants faceoff

A look at the changes the Cowboys made to their roster to take on the Giants on Monday Night Football. | From @KDDrummondNFL

The Dallas Cowboys are making habit of the mad, last-minute roster scramble they did prior to Week 2. Earlier in the week the club released WR Dennis Houston, but the team failed to make a corresponding move. That is, until Monday when several hours before they hit the field they added veteran lineman Jason Peters to the 53-man roster. The club has held Peters out for the first two games, but the offensive line needs him, and he will finally see some NFL action, even if in limited capacity.

The Cowboys have been using their practice squad elevations wisely over the first two weeks of the season and nothing changes there in Week 3. With a Monday night date with in Gotham, Dallas has once again used the rules to keep their backup QB off the roster until game day, as Will Grier is one of the club’s two allowed activations for the contest.  The other player to be activated is TE Sean McKeon, as a bit of tight end insurance. Here’s a look at the 55 players eligible to be activated Monday night.

Updated Injury Report: Cowboys LB Parsons misses 2nd straight day

The Cowboys saw a defender return to practice, another be added to the injury report and their biggest star miss a 2nd consecutive practice. | From @KDDrummondNFL

There’s no reason to panic, but it is noteworthy that Dallas Cowboys’ linebacker Micah Parsons missed his second straight day of practice on Friday. Nursing a cold the front office has already declared to not be a COVID or flu situation, the do-it-all defender has not been available this week. There was a bit of an actual concern stemming from Sunday’s win against the Cincinnati Bengals, where Parsons was favoring his leg.

The star said that he’s always dealing with pain but he wasn’t injured. Meanwhile, a new starting defender joins the injury list on Friday, three days before the club takes on the New York Giants. That brings the total number of Cowboys on the list to eight, while the Giants stayed stagnant at 11. One Giant, a key receiver, was downgraded on Friday after being listed as limited Thursday. For a full look at all of the players on the report, proceed below.

Cowboys vs Giants: 6 things to know about Week 3 opponent

An improved offense despite the same QB play are among the 6 things @BenGrimaldi thinks all fans should know about the Giants as the Cowboys ready for their Week 3 matchup.

The Dallas Cowboys found a way to earn a victory in Week 2 with a backup quarterback leading the charge. For the second time in two years, when called upon, quarterback Cooper Rush did enough to put the Cowboys in the win column.

Now the challenge becomes whether or not he can do it again. Last year Rush didn’t have to back up his win because starting quarterback Dak Prescott came back to after a calf injury sidelined him for a week. That isn’t the case in 2022, Rush will get another start under center as Dallas prepares for their first road game against the New York Giants.

This isn’t the Giants of the last handful of years, they’re tied for first in the NFC East after winning the first two games of the season. If the Cowboys can beat their rivals on Monday Night Football, they’ll move past the Giants in the standings.  Here are six things to know about the Giants as the Cowboys get ready for their Week 3 matchup.

Cowboys News: Manufactured storylines from the big man himself

The awaited return of a key receiver, Jerry Jones stirring the pot, the Cowboys injury status and more in the latest News and Notes. | From @CDBurnett7

The Cowboys, like all other NFL teams, would rather the conversation not center around injury status this early in the season. But Dallas doesn’t have the power to manipulate this particular narrative. Fortunately, after spending the first two weeks as a limited participant, wide receiver Michael Gallup was a full-go on Thursday. The Cowboys may have WR2 back in the fold for Monday Night Football.

On the other side of the coin Dallas had six key players held out of practice, however the cold which kept linebacker Micah Parsons out doesn’t seem to put his availability in question for the Monday matchup with the Giants. The Cowboys have owned the matchup for years but are avoiding overlooking the opponent, especially with every win’s value increased due to quarterback Dak Prescott’s absence.

The strong performance of backup Cooper Rush presented a classic moment for team owner Jerry Jones to find another way to strike up conversation about his billion-dollar investment; inventing a potential QB controversy. Details on Jones’ comments, Parsons’ value all over the field and more in the latest Cowboys News and Notes.

Parsons headlines 6 Cowboys held out, initial Week 3 injury report released

18 players combined appear on the initial Week 3 injury list. See what ails who as the Giants and Cowboys begin their prep. | From @KDDrummondNFL

Things are off by a day. The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants will exchange mean mugs and cold stares on a Monday this time, as the NFC East schedule kicks off for both teams in Week 3. With the delay by a day, the two teams did not get going with their regular schedules until Thursday, with the first full padded practice for both clubs.

With that, comes the initial practice/injury report of the week. The first time that each club has to report the injury situation for the players on their roster. The Cowboys are adding to their growing list of the walking wounded, with the number of players missing practice completely up to six. Not all of the players will be ruled out for the game, though. The team’s best two young defenders, Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs both showed up on the list, though both are expected to play.

The Giants have even more players on their list, including the core of their defensive line, though many were limited which can be an indication playing is a possibility. Here’s a look at the full practice report.
