Florida State edge Jermaine Johnson has the hype but will he be out of Cowboys range?

Johnson floated around before finding a home, but that hasn’t stopped the hype train. Does the film match and does he match Dallas’ plans? Tyler Browning (@DiabeticTyler) dives into the tape.

Florida State edge rusher Jermaine Johnson is well traveled, but found his groove when he landed in Tallahassee. He first came to fame for his appearance on the Netflix TV series Last Chance U. He played at Independence Community College and finished his time there rated very highly; a 247Sports.com four-star JUCO prospect.

He was a PrepStar Magazine five-star prospect, #1 overall nationally, #1 JUCO DE and ranked as the #2 overall Junior College prospect nationally. In his time at Independence, he totaled 96 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in just 20 games.

Following his time there he transferred to Georgia and played two seasons before transferring to Florida State. He topped off his career with an invite to the Senior Bowl, where he had a very impressive week that began a meteoric rise up the boards of draftniks. What does the film say about his play?

2022 Senior Bowl: 5 potential Chargers DL/EDGE who stood out from Day 1

Highlighting a few Senior Bowl interior defensive linemen and edge defenders who could be on the Chargers’ radar after Day 1 of practices.

Day 1 of practices at the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl has officially ended.

On a chilly day in Mobile, AL, there were a handful of NFL draft prospects who shined in the trenches on the first day.

Here are five players who stood out:

DT Travis Jones, UConn

I highlighted Jones as someone who should be on the Chargers’ radar coming into it, and he showed why as the National team took the field to start the day. In one-on-ones, Jones displayed the upfield disruptiveness with power and length that was compromising blockers from the snap and the anchor strength to make him immovable in the run game. The 6-foot-4 and 328 pounder is showing to be the perfect 0-1-technique with mismatch ability.

DT Neil Farrell Jr., LSU

Farrell had the second-highest run-stop percentage among Power 5 interior defensive linemen (11.4%) in 2021, and it was replicative on the practice field. In one-on-ones, he demonstrated exceptional burst and power to work his way into the backfield, strength at the point of attack to stalemate double teams and occupy the interior of the offensive line.

EDGE Myjai Sanders, Cincinnati

Sanders is one of the top-ranked edge defenders down here, and he lived up to his billing on Tuesday. On back-to-back reps, he beat the massive tackle Daniel Faalele. On the first, Sanders went into the toolbox and pulled out a swipe to rip move and the body flexibility to turn the corner. He followed that with an attempted spin move but instead, Sanders’ power was too much for Faalele to withstand.

EDGE Dominique Robinson, Miami (OH)

Robinson, the small-school standout, shined in his first day against higher level of competition. He had two would-be sacks of Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett. He won with speed and bend on the first rep, and followed that up with a bull rush that pushed the tackle back into the pocket, showing power and the length to lockout.

EDGE DeAngelo Malone, Western Kentucky

Flying under the radar is Malone, the 2019 Conference USA defensive player of the year. While relatively lean at 6-foot-3 and 234 pounds, Malone looks like the type of player who Brandon Staley covets at the position. He is explosive and loose off the snap with speed and burst, and uses length to his advantage.

2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl practice schedule, game-day rosters

#TheDraftStartsInMOBILE here’s a look at the 2022 #ReesesSeniorBowl practice schedule and game rosters #SeniorBowl

The Eagles are entering the 2022 NFL offseason with some stability after rookie head coach Nick Sirianni, led the Birds back to the postseason with a 9-8 record.

Philadelphia will now enter the offseason with $24 million in salary-cap space, three first-round picks, and four of the first-51 picks in April’s selection process.

The Draft officially starts in Mobile, and that means the Reese’s Senior Bowl is prepared to kick off a week of practice and festivities before next Sunday’s 72nd edition.

In 2021, there were six Senior Bowl participants drafted in the first round, 35 through the first three rounds, and 106 total picks, representing 41% of the entire 2021 NFL Draft.

As of Week 1 of this season, there are 626 Senior Bowl alums on NFL active rosters, which means 37% of all NFL players played in the Senior Bowl.

Here’s a look at the players that will be participating in the 2022 Senior Bowl.

Jets, Lions staffs to coach the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl

With non-playoff teams starting their preparation for the NFL draft, Jim Nagy and the staff over at the Reese’s Senior Bowl just announced the coaching staff for the 2022 contest.

With both teams having the top-two picks, Robert Saleh of the Jets and Dan Campbell of the Lions will take their staffs down to Mobile, Alabama for the 73rd annual Reese’s Senior Bowl to be played on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama.

Only college seniors and fourth-year junior graduates are eligible for the game and it provides NFL teams, scouts, and executives with an early look at some potential future stars.

The teams with the lowest winning percentage that season usually get the first opportunity to coach in the game, but only if a majority of their staff – and head coach – are intact.

Last year in 2021, the Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins coaching staffs led the charge after the Eagles declined, and the Jaguars and Jets were both hiring new head coaches.

Jacksonville had Urban Meyer, who was fired, and the team will now conduct another search.

The game will be aired live on the NFL Network at 2:30 ET. The Lions own the No. 2 pick, while the Jets own the Nos. 4 and 10 selections in the 2022 NFL draft.

Philadelphia owns the 15th and 16th picks as of now.
