Ronnie 2k: After Celtics bolster 2022 Finals core, ‘the sky’s the limit’

The NBA 2K ambassador Ronnie Singh had plenty to say about Boston’s future in a recent interview.

This year’s Las Vegas Summer League proceedings were hosted by the team behind the popular basketball simulation game series NBA 2K for the release of the 2K23 iteration of the game, uniting an increasingly entangled world of gamers, fans, and NBA cognoscenti for a week and change of networking, showcasing, and planning for the coming season.

To that end, our Cameron Tabatabaie was in attendance and got to speak with the series ambassador Ronnie Singh, better known as Ronnie2k, the man you see revealing the top players’ ranking each year among many duties promoting the series. The two of course touched on the Boston Celtics in Tabatabaie’s interview, who the 2K spokesman had plenty to say about not only their future but their impressive run to the 2022 NBA Finals as well.

“They were scary all season,” said Singh.

‘I still think about it every day,’ says Boston’s Jayson Tatum on coming up short in Finals, prepping for 2022-23

The Celtics star got a taste of the league’s biggest stage, and it’s only made him hungrier.

The Boston Celtics have had themselves one of the better offseasons in the league so far after signing veteran forward Danilo Gallinari and trading for point guard Malcolm Brogdon, and star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has already reached out to his new teammates. “I sent them a text message,” said Tatum at Las Vegas Summer League Saturday. “‘Happy to have you, if you need anything, reach out, looking forward to getting in the gym.'”

The St. Louis native shared team president Brad Stevens had given him the heads-up these moves might be coming while the team worked out the details to make them happen. “He told me some options they were looking at,” explained Tatum. “Things they were keeping an eye on.”

He also admitted that the way last season ended in a Finals loss is impacting his own approach to the offseason. “I still think about it every day,” he offered.

“Probably until the season’s started, until we get back to the championship, I guess, what happened in the Finals shaped the way you’re going to approach this offseason,” Tatum said. “To know how hard it is to get there, how much harder it is to get over that hump.”

“I have got to be better coming in next year, we’re obviously trying to get back (to the Finals).

1 bettor earned a whopping $269,000 on a free bet thanks to the Warriors, Avalanche and Rams

So much FREE MONEY!

Free bets are marketing ploys used by sportsbooks to draw and retain customers in a competitive industry. And maybe it’s just me, but the amount of free money that’s available lately seems to be ever-increasing.

The best thing you can do as a recipient of this money is maximize the winnings as much as possible. Sports betting is hard. Why nickel and dime with someone else’s money when you’re probably going to lose anyway? Go for broke.

That’s what one BetMGM bettor did, via VSiN VP of digital content Ben Fawkes, using a $500 free bet on a three-team championship parlay. And it actually worked!

The Colorado Avalanche’s Stanley Cup-clinching victory on Sunday turned some digital play money into a very tangible $269,000.

The instant gratification that betting can provide is one of the toughest parts about this type of parlay for some people. It took several months for it to be resolved, as the first leg was the Rams’ Super Bowl title way back in February. It was obviously worth it for whoever it is that just made a quarter-million, but someone more impatient would have never known the feeling of banking on +53800 odds.

What a feeling it must be.

Celtics Lab 124: What options do the Boston Celtics have to improve their 2023 title odds?

With the 2021-22 season officially behind us, what can the Celtics do to make a 2023 title more likely?

The Boston Celtics lost Game 6 of their 2022 NBA Finals series with the Golden State Warriors to lose the NBA title to their West Coast rivals, but are already turning the page to the 2022-23 NBA season and how they can spruce up their roster and skills in order to not only make the Finals again but this time, come out on top.

They have a very good idea about what they need to improve on as a team and as individual players and will have plenty of tools at their disposal to add some key new faces. Don’t expect fireworks in terms of a splashy addition this offseason, but armed with a bevy of traded player exceptions (TPEs), draft assets, and young players, Boston could make some minor moves around the margins or even get aggressive should the right player become available.

There is a lot to cover on what the offseason might end up looking like, so we broke it into two chunks, with this episode covering free agents, trades, and internal improvements, and another coming soon that will focus on the 2022 NBA draft headed our way this Thursday.

The Boston Celtics’ best moments in the 2022 NBA Playoffs

Don’t be sad that ended — be happy that it happened!

It might not have ended with the kind of result fans of the Boston Celtics were hoping for, but the 2022 NBA Playoffs run the Celtics put together after a season they started as one of the more underwhelming clubs in the league has plenty of moments worth looking back on.

For starters, it was effectively the revenge tour of a lifetime, with Boston dispatching each of the teams that have ended their seasons in recent years as the team worked its way back into contention status as they defeated first the Brooklyn Nets, then the Milwaukee Bucks, and finally the Miami Heat. Add in the satisfaction of sending arch-heel Kyrie Irving fishing with a sweep to kick things off, and it was something of a Celtics masterpiece.

Check out the clip embedded below for a collection of the very best moments from the Celtics’ 2022 postseason run in this highlight reel assembled by YouTuber Tomasz Kordylewski.

What are the Boston Celtics missing to win an NBA title?

And what should their plans to remedy that this offseason be?

In the wake of the Boston Celtics’ 2022 NBA Finals series loss to the Golden State Warriors, the front office now turns its attention to the task at hand regarding next season’s roster — namely, how to get back to and not lose the 2023 NBA Finals.

Such an undertaking is of course easier to pull off than talk about, but the team’s shortcomings in the 2022 Finals can give us some clues as to what might help make such a lofty plan work. More veteran minds calming the players when the going gets rough. More ballhandlers. More shooting. More passing.

What sort of players should the team target to add these things? What can they work on internally?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast got together to talk it over on a recent episode; watch the video embedded above to hear their perspectives.

Grading the Boston Celtics’ postseason play from top to bottom

Boston may not have made it to the promised land, but they got pretty close in a season few expected even a deep run.

The Boston Celtics came up short in their 2022 NBA Finals series against a seasoned Golden State Warriors squad, losing in six games to end a postseason run even All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum’s father Justin wasn’t entirely sure was going to happen.

Monday morning quarterbacking would be too easy in an assessment of that postseason run, inflected with the frustration that the Celtics couldn’t quite get the job done at their precocious average age of 25.9. But if one takes a longer view of how each player playing for Boston in the 2022 NBA Playoffs in the context of what was expected of them in the postseason, the Celtics acquitted themselves well for the most part.

Let’s take a stab at assessing the full playoff roster that saw the floor this postseason.

‘It was foolish’ for people to suggest breaking up the Jays, says ESPN’s Jalen Rose after Celtics’ Finals loss

Even in light of their failure on the biggest stage, Rose believes the two are the core for Boston moving forward.

In the wake of the Boston Celtics’ 2022 NBA Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors, the old trope of splitting up the team’s two young star forwards has reared its ugly head again, with the premise being the same — that the two can’t win together — except this time around the goal posts have been pushed to the brink of credulity with the ‘winning’ they supposedly can’t do together simply be a title.

Given it was their first such attempt and LeBron James did not get the goods on his first go-around, we are going to go ahead and side with ESPN’s Jalen Rose on this one, who took some time to push back against that particular line of thinking on a recent episode of his semi-eponymous “Jalen and Jacoby” show he co-hosts with David Jacoby.

Check out the clip embedded below to hear what Rose has to say about the future of the Jay Team in Boston.

Jayson Tatum’s dad Justin reacts to his son’s Finals loss with touching message

To the elder Tatum, Jayson’s performance in the postseason was by far the greatest Father’s Day present anyone could ever hope for.

As far as Justin Tatum is concerned, his Father’s Day gift this year came early and was of the variety that simply cannot be bought in stores (no matter what anyone says about the Golden State Warriors‘ payroll), an accomplishment that can only be appreciated fully by a proud dad watching his child competing at the highest level of his chosen vocation.

In a touching Instagram post the elder Tatum penned to honor his son’s monumental season helping lead the Boston Celtics to within two games of winning the storied franchise’s 18th banner, All-NBA Celtics forward Jayson Tatum’s father explained to his son just how proud he was of his accomplishment.

“These past 2 months you gave me the best Fathers Day gift a dad can ask for,” said Tatum’s father in the post.
