Five dark horse 2022 College Football Playoff contenders

Who could crash the College Football Playoff party in 2022?

The College Football Playoff has been dominated by a handful of teams since it started in 2014. Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Georgia have all made multiple appearances in the field.

Playoff expansion has been a popular topic of conversation around the college football world for quite some time now. Many are in favor of giving more teams an opportunity to play for a national championship. Others do not want the regular season and conference titles to lose any significance.

2021 featured two surprise teams in the semifinals. Michigan finally got over the Ohio State hump en route to their first college playoff birth. Cincinnati became the first group of five school voted in.

While usual suspects listed above have the inside track on the college football playoff again in 2022, here is a look a five “sleeper” teams who have the potential to crash the playoff party this season.

Alabama strikes first with a Will Reichard FG, leads Georgia 3-0

Alabama strikes first in the CFP title game, leading Georgia 3-0.

Thanks to a Will Reichard 37-yard field goal, Alabama takes an early 3-0 lead over the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Tide avoided disaster earlier in the drive after what appeared to be a sack-fumble returned for a touchdown by the Bulldogs. After video review, it was decided that Bryce Young had control of the ball and was moving his arm forward and that resulted in an incomplete pass.

Young went 5-9 for 45 yards on the Tide’s first drive of the game, helping Alabama drive into scoring range to set up the Reichard attempt.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire as we offer continuous coverage on the Alabama Crimson Tide!
