Bills take JK Dobbins in TD Wire mock ahead of Round 2

In Touchdown Wire’s Day 2 2020 NFL Draft mock, the Buffalo Bills take Ohio State running back JK Dobbins.

With the first round of the NFL’s first ever virtual NFL Draft in the books, the second round is now just hours away. With that comes the Buffalo Bills’ first selection.

As the dust settled, it appears the Bills could still land plenty of talent with their first pick at No. 54 overall. In Touchdown Wire‘s latest mock draft following the first round on Thursday and ahead of Friday’s Day 2 of the 2020 draft, the Bills land a running back with vselection.

The move is JK Dobbins from Ohio State:

54. Buffalo Bills: J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ohio State
The Buffalo Bills have a slasher type already in Devin Singletary, but with the acquisition of J.K. Dobbins from Ohio State, they add the tough, between-the-tackles type of back—a perfect complement to what Singletary provides the Bills’ offense.

In Dobbins, the Bills would land a 5-foot-10, 217 pound rusher that certainly has the vitals which indicate he’ll be a more powerful back than  the 5-foot-7 Singletary. Dobbins proved in college that he’ll use that size to run through contact and keep gaining yards.

Another important aspect of Dobbins’ game is when he played well. He often stepped up for the Buckeyes in big games. At the next level, Dobbins will have to add more receiving skill to his game and consistency as a pass protector. As a rookie, Singletary took some strides in those categories for the Bills himself.

The second round is slated for a 7 p.m. start on Friday.

2020 NFL Draft Round 2

1 (33) Cincinnati

OT Josh Jones, Houston

You’ve got the franchise quarterback with Joe Burrow. Now you have to start protecting him. Expect the Bengals to take either Jones or Boise State’s Ezra Cleveland.

2 (34) Indianapolis (from Washington)

CB Trevon Diggs, Alabama

The Colts finally get a chance to pick, and they have their shot at several corners on the board. Diggs is the best one available, but Utah’s Jaylon Johnson would be a find, too.

3 (35) Detroit

DT Ross Blacklock, TCU

The corner need was filled with a star in Ohio State’s Jeff Okudah. The secondary is helped, and now the Lions need a defensive lineman. Iowa DE AJ Epenesa is better, but Blacklock is the versatile option who’d fill in right away.

4 (36) NY Giants

S Xavier McKinney, Alabama

After reaching for Andrew Thomas with the fourth overall pick – the Georgia tackle is really, really good, but not at that spot – the Giants fall into a phenomenal value get with a quarterback for the secondary.

5 (37) New England (from LA Chargers)

LB Zack Baun, Wisconsin

His stock slid out of the first round after problems with his urine test at the combine, but he’s a great fit for a need spot. The Patriots will go with a tight end a little bit later.

[lawrence-related id=511273]

6 (38) Carolina

DE Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn State

The Panthers have to go Best Defensive Player Available, and they have to keep doing it, even though they took Auburn’s Derrick Brown in the first round. Gross-Matos fills the pass rushing need.

7 (39) Miami

RB Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin

It’ll either be Taylor, D’Andre Swift, or JK Dobbins. The Dolphins desperately need a running back – Jordan Howard isn’t the guy – and their patience is going to pay off after not taking one in the first round.

8 (40) Houston (from Arizona)

DE AJ Epenesa, Iowa

There aren’t a whole lot of picks to play around with, and this is Houston’s first pick in 2020, so it has to count. Getting Epenesa here to boost up a D line that needs a big depth boost would be a fantastic stroke of luck.

9 (41) Cleveland

S Antoine Winfield, Minnesota

Left tackle was figured out with Jedrick Wills with the tenth overall pick, and now they need a linebacker. This isn’t the spot to get one, so they’ll grab the best safety on the board.

10 (42) Jacksonville

OT Ezra Cleveland, Boise State

Going quarterback – Jacob Eason – would be the smart pick, but the Jaguars need offensive linemen … now. The defense got its help on Day One with CB CJ Henderson and edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson, and now Gardner Minshew gets some protection.

2021 NFL Draft Top 32 Prospects

This might not be your normal NFL Draft – at least, it won’t be the new normal, with all the bluster and goofy sideshows – but it’s still going to have its share of craziness, misfires, second-guess selections, and bold moves.

What do we know for certain? Most of the picks on Day Three will be a total waste of time, someone will pass on an obvious-in-hindsight Hall of Fame talent in the first round for a bust, and … we’ll all have a whole lot of fun.

So let’s project a little bit of the silliness. Here are five wacky predictions for the 2020 NFL Draft that will absolutely happen. Maybe. petef@Wib872

5. Washington at the 2, Detroit at the 3, New York Giants at the 4. Two of those three will trade out of their picks.

The three worst things in the entire world are 1) the Disney Family Singalong, 2) people who do what I do in sports media who complain in ANY way about being too in demand during this time of year because they’re SO busy getting to do their super-awesome sports jobs during a global pandemic, and 3) mock drafters who project trades.

You can’t make an NFL draft trade happen, and anyone who says they have inside knowledge from a trusted source are almost always being used in some way to put out misinformation.

You have to play it straight if you’re going to project an NFL draft, knowing full well that there will be trades at some point. With that said …

I’m projecting trades in my 2020 NFL Draft.

CFN in 60 Video: 5 Bold 2020 NFL Draft Predictions …
[jwplayer qKsSftL6]

Two of the three teams that pick immediately after Cincinnati takes Joe Burrow will trade out of their spots.

There’s a chance Washington really does see Ohio State DE Chase Young as the best player in the draft – which he is – and wants to stay put, but then it should go haywire.

Either 1) Miami and/or the Chargers will paranoid up and try moving from their respective spots at the 5 and 6 to make sure they get either Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert, or 2) teams like Jacksonville, who need a quarterback, will give away the farm to cut in line to get one of the two star QB prospects.

Ohio State CB Jeff Okudah is one of the four best prospects in the draft, but Detroit could move down out of the 3 and still be in line for a premium pick. And then there are the Giants.

[lawrence-related id=511116]

There’s absolutely no need whatsoever to take an offensive tackle in this draft at the fourth overall spot.

Tristan Wirfs, Mekhi Becton, Jedrick Wills, Andrew Thomas, Joshua Jones, Isaiah Wilson, Ezra Cleveland, Austin Jackson … they’re all good.

If the Giants like Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons, great. Stay put, take one of the five best prospects in this thing, and that’s the right selection at the right time. But if they’re going with an offensive tackle and they’re not moving down to do it, they’re not doing their job.

It’s time.

What’s the call, where are the top players going to go, and what are the big predictions for the first two rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft? There are plenty of betting options, lots of great players in a loaded early part of the draft, and whole lot of puzzle parts that will be scrambled up in a hurry.

CFN in 60: 2020 Top Five Overall Prospects
[jwplayer 4pb0NsqJ-boEY74VG]

One key note here. It’s not a fair for a mock draft to project trades. It’s very, very possible that Washington at the 2 and Detroit at the 3 will move down, until something is concrete, you have to play the mock drafts straight.

2020 NFL Mock Draft Round 1

1. Cincinnati

Mock Draft Pick: QB Joe Burrow, LSU

The Bengals should trade away the No. 1 overall pick to someone with several first round selections – hello, Miami – and move down in a deep draft, but they won’t. Burrow is deeply flawed as a top selection – if there wasn’t a 2019 season, he would’ve been a fifth-rounder – but he’s a must-get to get the franchise rolling again.

Cincinnati +1000

2. Washington

Mock Draft Pick: DE Chase Young, Washington

Do not get remotely comfortable with the idea that Young is heading to Washington. Watch out for several teams to offer a whole lot of cash and prizes to get up to the No. 2 spot for a quarterback – think Chicago Bears paying to move one pick up to get Mitchell Trubisky in 2017. If there’s no movement, this is a no-brainer.

3. Detroit

Mock Draft Pick: CB Jeff Okudah, Ohio State

See the Washington pick. Get ready for several teams to try getting up to the 3 to jump ahead of Miami and the Chargers to grab Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert. The Lions, though, desperately need a corner, and they have a shot at the prototype of prototypes.

Over 4.5 -130, Under 4.5 +105
BetMGM Which Team Will Draft Jeff Okudah
Detroit -176
BetMGM Position of Detroit 1st Drafted Player
Offense +380, Defense -527

4. NY Giants

Mock Draft Pick: OT Tristan Wirfs, Iowa

A case can be made that Washington should stand pat at the 2 and grab an elite DE talent in Chase Young, and Detroit should probably stick at 3 since it needs a corner and it has a superstar right there in Jeff Okudah. There’s no reason the Giants should stay at 4 in a deep draft of offensive tackles. This is WAY too high for Wirfs, especially with at least four other good OT options available in the first round.
BetMGM Tristan Wirfs Draft Position
Over 8.5 +135, Under 8.5 -162
BetMGM Position of NY 1st Drafted Player
Offense -304, Defense +235
BetMGM Exact Position of 1st Drafted Player (if it’s an OT) -304

5. Miami

Mock Draft Pick: QB Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama

This is a gigantic wild-card in every way possible. Will Miami stay with this pick? It has three first round selections and might use them to move around. Will it go with Tagovailoa over Justin Herbert? Will either of those two still be around at the 5? Don’t be shocked if Miami gets its quarterback at the 2 or 3.

6. LA Chargers

Mock Draft Pick: QB Justin Herbert, Oregon

There’s a thought that the Chargers really might go with Tyrod Taylor for wee bit and go with a quarterback – Jacob Eason or Jake Fromm – a bit later. They need a top offensive tackle, too, so they might trade down for multiple picks, but … nah. The franchise needs a young superstar quarterback to build around, and it might have to move up to do it.

7. Carolina

Mock Draft Pick: LB Isaiah Simmons, Clemson

It’s a value pick at the fantastic time. Carolina might need a corner, and it could use a boost to the defensive line, but it can sit there at the seven and wait for a fantastic prospect to fall to its spot. It’s Christmas for Matt Rhule and the new regime if Simmons – a top four talent in this draft – drops this far.

8. Arizona

Mock Draft Pick: OT Mekhi Becton, Louisville

This is a draft about building up the infrastructure around Kyler Murray. The defense needs a LOT of help, but that can come later on. For now, the Cardinals will find a tackle to keep the Face of the Franchise healthy. There might be concerns about Becton’s failed drug test at the combine, but how do you know teams want him? They’re talking about how his stock might drop.
BetMGM Position of Arizona 1st Drafted Player
Offense -278, Defense +220

9. Jacksonville

Mock Draft Pick: DT Derrick Brown, Auburn

One of the hottest prospects in the late stages of the draft process, Brown could be a top five overall pick as a cornerstone type that every team wants to lead its D line. The Jaguars need a quarterback, but they should be able to roll the dice that Jordan Love or Jacob Eason will be there at the 20.

10. Cleveland

Mock Draft Pick: OT Jedrick Wills, Alabama

Insert one of the top offensive tackles here. Between Tristan Wirfs, Mekhi Becton, Georgia’s Andrew Thomas, or Wills, one will be here at a need spot for a Brown line that needs a whole lot more help.

Cleveland +500

[lawrence-related id=510943]

11. NY Jets

Mock Draft Pick: WR Jerry Jeudy, Alabama

The Jets have to give Sam Darnold more weapons to work with. This is a phenomenal draft for top wide receivers, and Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb and Alabama’s Henry Ruggs would be easy calls. Jeudy is the best of the bunch.
BetMGM Jerry Jeudy Draft Position
Over 12.5 +120, Under 12.5 -145
BetMGM Position of NY 1st Drafted Player
Offense -556, Defense +400
BetMGM Exact Position of 1st Drafted Player (if it’s a WR) +110

12. Las Vegas

Mock Draft Pick: WR Henry Ruggs, Alabama

GM Mike Mayock can get a prime player at the 19, so here he can go grab a game-changing wide receiver to electrify the offense. CeeDee Lamb is an option and Jerry Jeudy is the perfect fit, but even with the move to Vegas, these are still the Raiders. Speed, speed, speed, speed, and speed.
BetMGM Henry Ruggs Draft Position
