LeCounte missed most of Georgia’s 2020 season after suffering multiple injuries in a motorcycle accident on Halloween night, but he was still named 2020 All-SEC first team by conference coaches and will go down as one of the best safeties to ever wear the Red and Black.
In his four-year career at Georgia, LeCounte totaled 44 games played, 106 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 8 interceptions, 18 passed defended, 4 forced fumbles and 6 fumble recoveries.
From the time of his commitment in 2015, to his final play as a Georgia Bulldog in this year’s Peach Bowl win, LeCounte was a Dawg through and through.
“He (LeCounte) has been so loyal to Georgia in an era when that’s not normal. It’s normal to de-commit, move here, decide late, Georgia coach Kirby Smart told reporters in December. “He committed early, he was a great player and he stayed an extra year for his senior year.”
Brooks, 40, took over as interim on Jan. 1 after Greg McGarity retired after 18 years at the helm of UGA athletics.
Brooks has been serving as deputy athletic director since 2018 and was named senior athletic director in 2020.
A Hammond, La. native, Brooks held positions as Director of Athletics at Millsaps Colleges in 2014-2015 and before that, was Assistant and Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations at Georgia in 2012-2014.
Several former Georgia Bulldogs tweeted their support for Brooks as the decision was made public.
Congrats to my guy @Brooks_UGA for getting the AD position at UGA! The best man for the job #GoDawgs
“From visionary and strategist to contract negotiator, fundraiser, and champion for student-athletes—the modern-day athletic director must effectively wear many hats. I am confident that Josh can wear all of these hats extraordinarily well, and I am excited to see our athletic program continue to evolve as one of the premier programs in the nation with him at the helm.”
The redshirt sophomore could have entered this year’s NFL draft.
Daniels return is absolutely huge for the Bulldogs who spent most of the season searching for an answer at quarterback before starting the USC transfer Daniels in game 7 versus Mississippi State.
Daniels went on to throw for 401 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 31-24 win over the Bulldogs from Starkville, which provided Georgia with the offensive spark it needed.
Daniels finished the season with 1,231 yards and 10 touchdowns with 2 interceptions in only four games.
Let’s see what he can do with an entire offseason to prepare under offensive coordinator Todd Monken, because the weapons that will be around Daniels next season are talented to say the least.
The Forsyth, Georgia, native is a part of the winningest senior class in Georgia football history.
In 10 games played this season Herring recorded 20 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 passes defended and 22 quarterback pressures.
Herring thanked the Bulldogs football family in his post.
“I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, training staff, equipment managers and fans that have supported me in this journey. The memories I have created will always be with me!”
Here’s how UGA Twitter reacted to Jack Podlesny’s big kick that gave Georgia the Peach Bowl win over Cincinnati.
Georgia sophomore kicker Jack Podlesny is not on scholarship, but he should be after his performance in the Bulldogs 24-21 win over Cincinnati in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.
The St. Simons Island native nailed a 37-yard kick to get help the Bulldogs get back in the game and then made the 53-yard game-winning field goal with three seconds remaining to send Georgia into the New Year with a win.
Here’s the buzz from UGA Twitter on the Dawgs Peach Bowl victory.
No. 9 Georgia found itself down 21-10 to undefeated Cincinnati at the start of the fourth quarter.
The No. 8 Bearcats wouldn’t be up long after that point. A strip-sack by Georgia linebacker Azeez Ojulari set up a quick rushing touchdown by running back Zamir White, which sparked the Bulldogs to a comeback.
Sophomore kicker Jack Podlesny nailed a 37-yard field goal that made it 21-19 and another sack by Ojulari and a pass deflection by defensive back Tyrique Stevenson gave the Bulldogs offense time to setup the game-winning 53-yard field goal by Podlesny.
Here’s the buzz from UGA Twitter on the Dawgs Peach Bowl victory:
Here is the chance of a lifetime for JT Daniels to solidify his spot heading into the 2021 offseason with a big boi drive to go win the game for the dawgs
That wrecking ball wearing No. 13 might have helped his draft stock a little bit by playing today. Be it in 2021 or 2022. Still give props to @ReuseRecruiting for the Azeez “The Disease” Ojulari line he authored. “Once he catches you, you are done.” 👊
The Bearcats currently lead the Bulldogs 21-16 with 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, live on ESPN.
No. 9 Georgia has all sorts of troubles with No. 8 Cincinnati so far in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.
The Bearcats held a 21-10 lead early in the fourth quarter until Georgia linebacker Azeez Ojulari sacked Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder and forced a fumble that was recovered by the Bulldogs, setting up a Zamir White touchdown run.
No. 8 Cincinnati took a quick lead in the first quarter on a 14 yard touchdown pass from Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder and now, the Bulldogs have answered with a score of their own.
