Georgia officially promoted interim Josh Brooks to athletic director during a meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

Brooks, 40, took over as interim on Jan. 1 after Greg McGarity retired after 18 years at the helm of UGA athletics.

Brooks has been serving as deputy athletic director since 2018 and was named senior athletic director in 2020.

A Hammond, La. native, Brooks held positions as Director of Athletics at Millsaps Colleges in 2014-2015 and before that, was Assistant and Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations at Georgia in 2012-2014.

Several former Georgia Bulldogs tweeted their support for Brooks as the decision was made public.

Via UGA President Jere W. Morehead:

“From visionary and strategist to contract negotiator, fundraiser, and champion for student-athletes—the modern-day athletic director must effectively wear many hats. I am confident that Josh can wear all of these hats extraordinarily well, and I am excited to see our athletic program continue to evolve as one of the premier programs in the nation with him at the helm.”
