Big Ten bowl predictions and College Football Playoff picks after Week 3

Our latest predictions and projections for Big Ten bowls and the College Football Playoff. #B1G

The Big Ten has a rich history in bowl games, and the expectations are it will continue in 2023 — we think.

Here at Buckeyes Wire, we keep the tradition going and look at where we think all of the teams in the conference will end up when the dust settles on the season. We re-evaluate after each week’s games and predict where teams will be traveling for the holidays based on what our little eyeballs tell us.

As it stands, Ohio StateMichigan and Penn State should be shoo-ins for the postseason. Others such as Iowa and Wisconsin should be no-brainers as well. Additional teams could be on the fence with a game here or there making a huge difference on whether they make travel plans for the postseason.

Keep in mind the scenarios are very complicated with bowl tie-ins and contractual preferences for teams that have not been involved in certain locations, so we do our best to track it all. We also throw in the College Football Playoff picks as a cherry on top of it all.

Below is a look at the bowl predictions for Big Ten teams and complete playoff picks after Week 3.

Ohio State Football: Game time, date released for Fiesta Bowl

Ohio State Football, after being relegated to the No. 2 seed despite being undefeated, will play in the Fiesta Bowl. Here’s the start time.

The Fiesta Bowl, which tag teams with the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl as the two College Football Semifinals, will be taking place in Glendale, Arizona. This season, it will be Ohio State and Clemson, two conference champions, battling it out in the hot southwest, but on an air conditioned venue.

Ohio State is coming off a victory over Wisconsin in which they were down 21-7 at the half. They looked flawed, but the Buckeyes still found a way to win the game after finding themselves in the second half, scoring 27 unanswered.

Clemson has just the opposite. The Tigers blew through Virginia. It’s 13-0, but it’s partially because the ACC is such a weak conference that the Tigers were given no respect as a top-two team in the nation.

That said, Ohio State Football, after being relegated to the No. 2 seed despite being undefeated, will play in the Fiesta Bowl. The game, which will take place on December 28, just released its start time.

Let’s hope this game ends better than the last time these two teams met.

Big Ten Football 2019 Bowl Projections, College Football Playoff picks after week 14

The regular season is over and Big Ten bowl and College Football Playoff matchups are as clear as ever. Here’s a projection post week 14.

The Big Ten has a rich, rich history in historical bowl games, and the expectations are set for that to continue in 2019. Here at Buckeyes Wire, we’re keeping with tradition and giving you a peek at where we think all the teams in the conference will end up when all the dust settles on the season.

We reassess after each week of games and project based on what we’ve seen. And now that the regular season is over, we have had some wholesale chances and have a better idea of where all the teams are going.

Keep in mind that the Big Ten is extremely heavy at the top and this all depends on where the College Football Playoff Rankings shake out. For instance, the Rose Bowl will likely take the next highest rated Big Ten team, but that’s not a given — it is not contractually bound to do so. With that in mind though, it’ll be tight between Wisconsin, Penn State and Minnesota in the final call.

This thing has changed throughout the course of the season, and it still can depending on any chaos that emerges in the conference championship games. So stay tuned.

Also, keep in mind that these scenarios are very complicated with projecting when there’s not enough teams from certain conferences with tie-ins, and the agreements with bowls to not repeat the same program over a certain time-frame if at all possible.

Here’s a look at the projections now after the finish of the regular season.
