Texas Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger had a good game from a statistical standpoint against Oklahoma. Although the Longhorns offense as a whole wasn’t what have been used to seeing. The team wasn’t able to be consistent on offense. However with a two passing touchdown and four rushing touchdown performance, Ehlinger became only the 11th player since 2000 to accomplish that feet.
Other notable quarterbacks who accomplished this feat include Colin Klein for Kansas State in 2012 and Tim Tebow for Florida in 2007. Ehlinger and Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald were the only two that accomplished the feat in a losing effort.
During the game Ehlinger also matched a mark only done by Colt McCoy in school history. He eclipsed the 10,000 yards passing mark against the Sooners. He currently sits at 10,081 yards after 37 career starts and 40 career games. McCoy is first in school history with 13,253 yards which is 3,172 yards ahead of Ehlinger. The next closest player in school history is Major Applewhite with 8,353.
Sam now sits with exclusive company as a member of the 10,000 yard club. He is the second Longhorn but also the 12th player in Big 12 Conference history to accomplish the feat. He now is within striking distance of being a top 10 passer in Big 12 history in terms of yards.
With a strong start to the season, Ehlinger also passed former Sooner Jason White for 12th in career touchdown passes in the Big 12. He is 16 touchdown passes away from becoming only the sixth player in conference history to reach the century mark.
