What a whirlwind the past few weeks have been for Texas football.
While some great news has certainly rolled in at times, there’s also been some discouraging events. On Thursday, starting linebacker DeMarvion Overshown announced via Twitter that he plans to sit out of all team related activities for the foreseeable future.

While Overshown expressed admiration and respect for his teammates and coaches at the University of Texas, his passion for the social and racial injustice issues going on in the country far outweighs the importance of football.
It appears that his goal is to put some urgency into the decision makers at Texas to implement positive changes sooner rather than later. “We have been told that things are being done behind closed doors but have yet to see any changes,” Overshown stated.
“With that being said, until real action is taken and changes are made, I will be sitting out of all team activities. I will support my team in whatever they do, but this is something I’m very passionate about and I can not continue to perform for a program that doesn’t show me the same love and support that I do for them.”
It’s certainly a big blow for the Texas defense, as Overshown was expected to fill the starting role as the WILL linebacker this season. Hopefully the University and players are able to mutually agree on a path forward in the near future.
