With the first round of the NFL preseason games beginning this week, football is officially back. Leading up to the preseason games, joint practices are taking place all across the NFL. These practices allow for some friendly competition.
The big takeaway from the Detroit Lions‘ joint practices with the New York Giants to this point has been how dang electric former Alabama running back [autotag]Jahmyr Gibbs[/autotag] has been. The Lions used the No. 12 selection in the 2023 NFL draft on Gibbs, which is remarkably high for the RB position. However, it sounds like the Lions plan on using Gibbs as a Swiss Army Knife between backfield touches and lining up as a slot receiver.
Gibbs led the Crimson Tide in terms of reception in 2022, so he is no stranger to getting the ball in space and making defenders miss. Which is exactly what he has done at joint practices after going viral for absolutely burning New York linebacker Bobby Okereke in one-on-one receiving drills. Gibbs’s explosive speed and embarrassment of the Giants’ LB immediately sent X, formerly known as Twitter, and social media ablaze.
