When news first surfaced that Texas and Oklahoma were interested in departing the Big 12 conference to join the SEC, the Texas A&M Aggies were notably unhappy with the move.
Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher and athletic director Ross Bjork often voiced their displeasure with the potential realignment. “We love being the only program in the state of Texas (in the SEC), and we’re going to maintain that position,” Bjork said.
It’s no secret that the Texas football program has attempted to reignite the in-state rivalry for years, and the Longhorns seemingly had to join the SEC in order for this to happen.
Amid SEC conference realignment discussions this week, primarily centering around scheduling and permanent conference opponents, Fisher stated he would love to play Texas annually.
This caught many college football fans by surprise, as the Aggies had the complete opposite view last year. Were Fisher’s recent comments just a smokescreen now that Texas A&M will be forced to play Texas, or is he genuinely excited for the challenge?
Here’s a look at the best social media reactions to Fisher’s recent comments on the in-state rivalry.
