Juwan Mitchell, LB
A few seasons ago, the Longhorns had an embarrassment of riches at the safety position. This year, they’ve got an embarrassment of riches at linebacker. Not only is Overshown getting his deserved hype and newly transferred linebacker Ray Thornton from LSU adding more depth, we shouldn’t forget about the team’s leading tackler in Juwan Mitchell.
It shouldn’t be a forgone conclusion that DeMarvion Overshown is the best linebacker on the team, especially since Mitchell has had a head start at the position. To this point in his career, Mitchell has 99 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, and five pass break ups. He has improved each season and has been a pure linebacker from the time he stepped on campus.
It’s possible that the player who could challenge Overshown for the awards listed previously are on his own team. That’s a good problem to have.
