Big 12 reportedly eyeing late July timetable to make decision on football, other fall sports

One day after telling The Dallas Morning News that the Big 12 conference wouldn’t rush to a decision on the heels of the Big Ten’s announcement to move to a conference-only schedule for the 2020 college football season, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby gave a bit of a hint on when a Big 12 announcement could come.

After being told of the ACC’s plans to make a decision in late July, Bowlsby told ESPN that the Big 12 is “kind of on the same schedule.”

Bowlsby told The News that Big 12 athletic directors are currently scheduled to meet Tuesday and the Board of Directors is slotted to meet the following Monday.

The Big 12’s best recruiting classes for 2021

247Sports put together the top ten rankings for the 2021 Big 12 recruiting classes. No surprises with the top two teams but Kansas sitting in the middle of the pack at five might be.

Of the highest-ranked recruit to sign with each of the 10 Big 12 schools, eight are offensive players and only one is a purely defensive prospect.* That doesn’t seem to follow the formula of a league transitioning to more dominant defenses.

*The other is two-way star Ja’Tavion Sanders, who most believe will be a defensive end at Texas. But the Longhorns told Sanders he could pick his future position, and the five-star athlete excels as both a pass-catcher and a pass-rusher at Denton (Texas) Ryan.

  1. Texas (10th overall)
  2. Oklahoma (15th overall)
  3. Baylor (21st overall)
  4. West Virginia (38th overall)
  5. Kansas (45th overall)
  6. Oklahoma State (46th overall)
  7. Iowa State (47th overall)
  8. Kansas State (60th overall)
  9. Texas Tech (63rd overall)
  10. Texas Christian (82nd overall)

Matt Campbell updates status of UNC transfer Greg Ross

According to Iowa State’s 247Sports site, head coach Matt Campbell provided an update on an incoming transfer from UNC.

North Carolina graduate transfer Greg Ross is not currently with the Iowa State football team for summer workouts, Matt Campbell said Thursday.

Iowa State announced the addition of Ross to the team back in May. Ross’ name appeared on the online roster until it was updated to reflect the arrival of the 2020 signing class on campus. Ross’s name no longer appeared on the roster after the updates.

The cornerback’s long-term status with Iowa State is still up in the air according to Campbell.
