The Saints submitted a waiver claim for ex-Texans TE Kahale Warring, but the Patriots got to him first:

Well that’s frustrating. The New Orleans Saints need more bodies at the tight end position after injuries sidelined Garrett Griffin, Adam Trautman and Nick Vannett. Only Juwan Johnson and Ethan Wolf were available for Tuesday’s practice session. Expect some free agents to try out this week so they can at least field a full depth chart while Trautman and Vannett recover from their injuries.

But it stings to miss on a potential addition like this. ESPN’s Field Yates reports that the Saints submitted a waiver claim for former Houston Texans tight end Kahale Warring, but they were leapfrogged by the New England Patriots. The NFL is using the same order for draft selections in the waiver wire this time of year, so New England (at No. 15) gets priority ahead of New Orleans (at No. 28). Yates adds that the Indianapolis Colts (No. 21) also submitted a waiver claim, so there was no chance Warring would have made it to the Saints.

Missing out on Warring isn’t a world-ending problem. He’s only appeared in seven games over the last two years while dealing with injuries. But the Saints are so thin at the position right now that they could use all the help they can get even for just a few weeks. Keep an eye out for any new arrivals in the days ahead.
