The Ohio State football team has hauled in quite the recruiting class for 2021. All told 21 prospects signed during the early signing period, giving the Buckeyes the No. 2 ranked class according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
Since then, there’s been plenty of speculation about the Buckeyes landing a couple of big fish still out there to reel in and surpass Alabama for No. 1 in 2021. In fact, OSU looks pretty good with five-star defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau out of Washington. The Buckeyes also seem to be making a late push for four-star linebacker Raesjon Davis who is reportedly with his family visiting Columbus this weekend.
But if you thought OSU was going to be able to catch the Crimson Tide, you can probably put that on the same hopeful pile that Michigan fans place beating Ohio State on. That’s because Ryan Day spoke about polishing off this class as the traditional National Signing Day approaches and confirmed that the staff is mostly done with commitments for 2021.
“We really don’t have much (room),” Day said. We’re pretty full right now, a pretty healthy roster. That can always change. There might be one spot available, but other than that, we’re pretty full. But again, we’ll keep evaluating and keep looking at it. We’re certainly continually recruiting some guys here towards the next signing day. We probably would have a spot for one guy.”
I don’t want to read too much into that, but that makes you believe that Ohio State feels pretty good about one more commitment making it official. If I had to say who, it’s probably Tuimoloau. However, if Davis has the time of his life this weekend, Day might be having to deal with a pretty good problem of trying to find room for both. We’ll see how it all plays out.
For now though, you can pretty much mail it in that the Buckeyes will finish with the No. 2 class overall in 2021.
