Rutgers football recruiting: New Jersey four-star Owen Wafle de-commits from Notre Dame

Owen Wafle de-commits from Notre Dame.

One of the top prospects in New Jersey, defensive lineman Owen Wafle, has opened up his recruitment. The class of 2024 standout made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

Wafle, who originally had committed to Notre Dame last May, released a statement saying he “believes it is important for me to explore other opportunities and find the best fit for my personal and athlete development.”

A 6-foot-3, 270-pound prospect at The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.), Wafle is ranked a four-star by Rivals and is their third-best player in New Jersey in this current recruiting class.

He has been offered by Rutgers and had made multiple visits to campus prior to his Notre Dame commitment last May

He has an offer list that includes Boston College, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others.

Rutgers football has done well with recruiting players from The Hun in recent years since the return of head coach Greg Schiano to the program. Four-star offensive lineman Jacob Allen, an All-American selection in high school, was a significant commitment to Rutgers in the 2022 recruiting class.
