Report: Texas is expected to land USC transfer linebacker Palaie Gaoteote

The Longhorns are expected to land another linebacker from the NCAA transfer portal.

Throughout the offseason, Steve Sarkisian’s staff has been busy plucking top players out of the transfer portal and four of them are linebackers: Notre Dame’s Ovie Oghoufo, Alabama’s Ben Davis, LSU’s Ray Thornton and New Mexico State’s Devin Richardson.

On Friday, Matt Zenitz reported former five-star recruit and USC linebacker Palaie Gaoteote will transfer to Texas.

Over three seasons at USC, Gaoteote compiled 105 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He unfortunately suffered a concussion against Arizona in 2020 which caused him to miss the rest of the season.

Gaoteote entered his name in the transfer portal after the UCLA game last year. If he does transfer to Texas, it would be a major addition for Pete Kwiatkowski’s defensive unit.
