Report: Celtics assistant coach Will Hardy a leading candidate for Jazz head coach

The former Spurs assistant might be helming his own team come October.

The Boston Celtics might need to add a new face to the ranks of their assistant coaches if a certain current assistant coach finds himself the next head coach of the Utah Jazz.

The Salt Lake City Tribune‘s Andy Larsen reports Celtics assistant coach Will Hardy is among the leading candidates to replace longtime Jazz head coach Quin Snyder.

“It’s Celtics’ assistant Will Hardy that is considered by many league insiders to be a leading candidate at this point,” Larsen writes.

Given, as the SLC Tribune journalist notes, Utah CEO Danny Ainge’s tenure in Boston did not overlap with Hardy’s, so it is not a matter of personal relationships. It is more the body of work put together by Hardy with the Celtics and San Antonio Spurs that has given him the perceived inside track.

Larsen also reports Phoenix Suns assistant Kevin Young is another leading name from the pool of interviewees, which has included Celtics alumni Jerome Allen, Sam Cassell and Joe Mazzulla among a large pool of candidates.
