Report Card: Grading LSU’s loss against Auburn

After suffering the program’s worst defeat since 1996, there was plenty of blame to go around for LSU after its loss at Auburn.

Defense: F

There is no sugar coating this performance. Bo Pelini’s defense got shredded by Bo Nix and the Auburn offense, and the defense could not be relied on to make any big stops.

Auburn entered the red zone six times in the game and left it with 35 points. Other than one forced fumble by Derek Stingley in the second quarter, LSU’s defense gave up touchdowns every time Auburn reached the red zone. And that lone turnover was the product of a video replay review that led to a touchback in the end zone for LSU.

LSU gave up 300 passing yards and 206 rushing yards as Auburn used a balanced attack with big plays in a variety of ways to take care of LSU’s defense. LSU’s defense was unable to get their hands on Auburn quarterback Bo Nix. LSU ended the game without a sack.

This was the third time this season LSU has allowed at least 40 points in a game. LSU’s defense allowed just one team to score 40 points last year, with Alabama doing so in an LSU victory in Tuscaloosa. LSU is 0-3 this year when opponents score 40 or more points.
