Report: Boston Celtics to cut veteran forward Jake Layman

Layman, a local player out of Norwood, Massachusetts who played his NCAA basketball with the University of Maryland, linked up with the team in the hopes of making Boston’s regular season roster.

Per new reporting from Celtics Blog and Spotrac’s Keith Smith, the Boston Celtics have reportedly waived veteran forward Jake Layman as they work to get their 20-man training camp roster down to the league’s regular season maximum 15-player limit.

Layman, a local player out of Norwood, Massachusetts who played his NCAA basketball with the University of Maryland, linked up with the team in the hopes of making Boston’s regular season roster to provide some depth on the wing. The 6-year NBA veteran has had previous stops with the Portland Trail Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves but has yet to stick in the league due to his inconsistent shooting, lack of rebounding for his size, and uninspired defense.

Layman has posted career rates of 4.8 points and 1.7 rebounds per game while shooting just 30% from 3.
