Report: Baylor could resume football activities this weekend

Baylor could resume football activities as soon as this weekend. The Bears have not been practicing after COVID-19 tests came back positive.

Baylor could resume football activities as soon as this weekend per Bears Illustrated. The Bears have not been practicing for nearly a week after COVID-19 cases infiltrated the squad.

“At this time and in the interest of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, we have temporarily suspended all football-related activities. Their health and wellness will always be our top priority,” said Baylor athletic director Mack B. Rhoades.

As a result, Saturday’s matchup against Oklahoma State had to be postponed to a later date. Baylor was also coming off a bye week and has not played a game since Oct. 3. Next on the schedule is a trip down to Austin to face Texas.

Originally, the outbreak put doubt in the Oct. 24 matchup happening but is moving in the right direction with the resumption of football activities in Waco.

The Bears’ schedule has been moved around a ton this season, having only played twice this season. Nonconference matchups against Louisiana Tech and Houston had to postponed due to the virus.

As things stand, Texas is scheduled to play Baylor at 2:30 p.m. at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Oct. 24. Hopefully, the COVID-19 results come back negative and neither team will miss a beat.
