Redoing Texas’ 2019 Season on NCAA 14: Weeks 4-6

Having updated rosters, we will see if Texas can improve on their 8-5 record in NCAA 14. Here is how Weeks 4-6 went for the Longhorns.

Week 6 vs Oklahoma

This game got ugly and it got ugly fast. Oklahoma blew out Texas in our simulation, 35-7. That would have been the largest margin of victory in the Red River Shootout since the Sooners won in 2012 by 42 points.

Transfer quarterback Jalen Hurts dominated the Longhorns offense, accounting for four out of their five touchdowns. All coming through the air, the senior was 28-40 with 293 yards. Playing nearly a flawless game, Oklahoma’s offense was rarely stopped, only having eight third downs the entire game.

Flipping for Texas’ offense and the same issues have come up again. Firstly, Ehlinger was poor, once more only completing 50% of his passes. With the usual one touchdown and one interception day, Texas only found points once and it was via Collin Johnson on a one-yard reception.

Secondly, the red zone was not kind to the Longhorns, only converting on one of four opportunities. They could not even muster up three points through Cameron Dicker, as he did not attempt a single field goal.

Finally, the third-down conversion rate was horrible again, going 5-13. Had Texas played a game similar to this fashion in real life, it may have been the end for Tom Herman. He should more than likely be fired in our simulation, getting off the school’s worst start since 2015 with Charlie Strong.

Here are the full team stats:

Upcoming games against Kansas State, Kansas, and TCU are games the Longhorns should be winning year in and year out. If NCAA 14 is similar to what happened in real life, Texas is in for some painfully close games against the bottom of the Big 12.
