Redoing Texas’ 2019 Season on NCAA 14: Weeks 4-6

Having updated rosters, we will see if Texas can improve on their 8-5 record in NCAA 14. Here is how Weeks 4-6 went for the Longhorns.

Week 4 vs Oklahoma State

Big 12 play opened up on a positive note for Texas in the 2019 season, beating Oklahoma State in an offensive shootout, 36-30. Over on NCAA 14, much was the same, as the Longhorns’ stole a win from the Cowboys, 34-31.

Sam Ehlinger finally had a decent game, having a season-high in passing yards with 317. His completion percentage finally got into the 60% range, going 19-29 with a touchdown. The junior’s two main targets, Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay both had big days, going for 123 and 115 yards respectively on six catches each.

The run game was beneficial again for Texas but from a new face. Former five-star recruit Jordan Whittington led the way, having 69 yards on 14 carries. Usual feature back Keaontay Ingram only had five rushing attempts on the day, amounting to 15 yards.

Struggling to get offensive points on the board, the Longhorns’ offense was not able to get a touchdown until midway through the third quarter. Two Cameron Dicker field goal opened the scoring for Texas, while a scoop and score from Gerald Wilbon was the only touchdown in the first half for the Horns.

Defensively, the Longhorns held one of the best running backs in the country, Chubba Hubbard, to only 20 yards. As a whole, Oklahoma State did not run the ball much, only gaining 37 yards on 10 attempts.

Instead, they threw the ball 44 times, making up for 91% of their total offense. Dru Brown got the nod at starting quarterback, having 377 yards, three touchdowns, an interception, while going 27-44.

The fourth quarter was full of scoring, having four touchdowns and two from both teams. Brown threw his third and final score of the night to Landon Wolf with 40 seconds left, looking like Oklahoma State was going to steal a victory from Texas.

Instead, Ehlinger led a charge downfield and found Brennan Eagles with nine seconds left, making it a heroic last-second win from the Texas offense.
