The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Texas A&M Aggies, 52-24, on Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for their home-opener for the 2020 season.
This was the Tide’s eight straight time beating the Aggies.
This game was full of unknowns due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the Alabama Crimson Tide showed up and showed out.
Led by senior quarterback Mac Jones, the Tide had a combined 544 offensive yards. Jones went 20-of-27 for 435 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 INT.
As for the running game, Alabama was able to move the ball quite well, and more often than we’ve seen in previous seasons. Najee Harris, who decided to return for his senior season, had a stellar performance. He finished with 12 carries for 43 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brian Robinson Jr. also had 10 carries for 60 yards.
Also on offense, Jaylen Waddle emerged as one of the best players of the night once again. Waddle finished with 5 receptions for 142 yards and 1 touchdown. John Metchie III also put on a show. He finished the game with 5 receptions for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns. And DeVonta Smith scored his first TD of the season and finished 6 receptions for 63 yards and 1 TD. These 4 are going to be amazing to watch this season.
Defensively, Alabama showed a much stronger and faster defense than last season, which has a lot to do with being healthy and being led by the defensive line, and also Christian Harris and Dylan Moses.
The Tide held the Aggies to 450 yards on offense. Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond finished 24-of-44 for 318 yards, 3 TD, and 1 INT.
All in all, Alabama played its hearts out and showed it is hungry to make it back to the college football playoff. Jones showed his ability to be consistent and how much of a leader he is. And Alabama’s defense looks to be a threat to all of the SEC.
Simply put, this was an incredible way for the Crimson Tide to open up the season at home in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
