Watch: Tavon Wilson is latest Lion featured on ‘Under the Helmet’

The Detroit Lions Michigan Emmy winning documentary continues, this time featuring safety Tavon Wilson.

The Detroit Lions Michigan Emmy winning documentary series “Under the Helmet” premieres a new episode at Ford Field ahead of every home game. So far this season, the series has featured Romeo Okwara, Quandre Diggs, Kerryon Johnson, and Taylor Decker.

Next up: Lions safety Tavon Wilson.

For those unfamiliar with the series, it is led by Dustyn Blindert (Senior New Media Producer) and Eamonn Reynolds (Director of Football Communications), and it looks at Lions player’s lives off-the-field, giving fans a unique perspective on who the players are as individuals.

This episode opens with Wilson talking about what it was like growing up in a tough neighborhood and how he now reaches out to youth in the community, letting them know “their future is bigger than their environment, right now”.

The video then shifts to Wilson talking with youth about facing adversity head-on and not running from problems. He leans on his experiences of growing up in the projects without a mother (who died when he was 12 years old) or a father (who dies when he was only one year old) and that people are capable of overcoming adversity.

Wilson said he recognizes that the NFL provides him a platform to reach out and help others because that’s what he really wants to do. That line of thought transitions into the work he does to raise money for Lupus research as it has impacted his family.

Continuing with the family theme, Wilson then talks about his immediate family and how he enjoys spending time with them on his off days.

Wilson then spends some heartfelt time talking about his wife. Explaining how she is his biggest supporter, as well as the person who helped him break through barriers and overcome his fears.

You can watch the entire touching episode on Wilson below:

Jets LB C.J. Mosley wants to play again in 2019

C.J. Mosley has missed nine games this season with a groin injury, but he’s hopeful he can return this season.

The Jets surprisingly decided against putting linebacker C.J. Mosley on injury reserve after he reaggravated a groin injury five weeks ago, but now Mosley believes he could play this season, possibly in Week 14.

Mosley received injections of platelet-rich plasma to help heal his injured groin this week. Those shots, he said, give him a “50-50” chance to play again this season.

“If I can do anything to avoid ending my season, I’m going to try it,” he said on Friday, per ESPN. “I’d rather do that than cut my body open. That was the thinking on that.”

The Jets gave Mosely a five-year, $85 million contract last offseason in the hopes he could strengthen the core of their defense. He played well in Week 1 against the Bills, but suffered a groin injury midway through the game. When he returned and reinjured himself in the Week 7 loss to the Patriots, the Jets said he could theoretically return in five-to-six weeks. Heading into what would be his fifth week of rehab, Mosley said he’s running again and hopes to get on the practice field soon.

While it may seem pointless for Mosley to risk a second aggravation in what is a lost season for the Jets, the linebacker feels it’s his responsibility as a captain to play. That’s a well-intentioned sentiment but looks more and more unlikely as the season progresses. Even Adam Gase remains at worst skeptical and at best noncommittal about Mosley’s return.

“We’re just kind of going through that process and see where it takes us,” he said. “I don’t really know the answer to that.”

Ultimately, it will come down to Mosley’s rehabilitation over the next few weeks. Mosley is positive but realistic when it comes to his availability in the few weeks left in the season. He said he’ll get surgery if his injury doesn’t heal over the next two weeks.

“I’m trying to do everything I can to avoid surgery and play,” he said. “Worst-case scenario: I’ll have to get surgery if next week doesn’t go well.”

Sixers vs. Heat preview: Jimmy Butler makes his return to Philly

The Philadelphia 76ers seek a fourth straight win against the Miami Heat.

It’s been five months since Jimmy Butler decided to leave the Philadelphia 76ers for the Miami Heat in a sign-and-trade after 55 games with the franchise and a nice playoff run. Five months of fans dealing with anger and shock over the Sixers losing a player of such star caliber.

On Saturday night, they’ll finally be able to unleash that pent up anger.

The Sixers will look to make it four wins in a row when they welcome in Butler and the red hot Heat who are sitting at 11-3 after they knocked off the Chicago Bulls on Friday. Philadelphia will be looking to remain undefeated at home after they beat the San Antonio Spurs on Friday and both teams will be playing on the second night of a back-to-back.

With that said, it’s time for the preview with everything that comes with it:

Storylines

Embiid’s relationship with Butler

Sixers All-Star Joel Embiid has made it clear that he and Butler still talk on a regular basis and he has made it known that he is a close friend of his. However, once between the lines, that friendship goes out the window and it’s time for work. Embiid understands that more than anybody as he stated:

It doesn’t matter, we’ve got to get the win. That’s my guy, obviously we talk a lot, but we’ve got to get the win. They(Miami) have been doing pretty good. They’re a pretty good team, so it’s going to be a challenge. We’ve got to come out and be ready like we did tonight and not mess around. At the end of the day, it’s all about winning the game.

Praise for Simmons

The Sixers All-Star point guard has received a ton of criticism over his lack of shooting, but that doesn’t mean he’ll back down. No matter what obstacle is thrown his way, he always seems to stand tall and bounce back. That’s something that caught coach Brett Brown’s eye after the win on Friday as he stated:

I see it in him, when he missed some free throws, it didn’t surprise me, like he was going to come back and make some. He doesn’t melt. Ben Simmons does not melt and I think that he, there’s an inner strength and confidence that I see at a young age that he bounces back.

Prediction

The Heat are more than just Butler. They have a roster filled with guys that only the hardcore NBA junkies are aware of, but guys like Duncan Robinson, Bam Adebayo, Kendrick Nunn, and others are stepping up and playing integral roles in the team’s success. The Sixers are the more talented team on paper, but this certainly will not be a cakewalk by any means. The Sixers better buckle down and be prepared for a fight, because that’s exactly what they’ll be getting.

Jets injury report: Chuma Edoga, Kelvin Beachum questionable vs. Raiders

Chuma Edoga and Kelvin Beachum are both listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

After an initial injury scare with both Chuma Edoga and Kelvin Beachum, both should be good to go on Sunday against the Raiders.

Edoga (ankle/knee) and Beachum (ankle) are listed as questionable, as Edoga was limited in practice the last two days after not practicing on Wednesday. Beachum was limited the whole week. Meanwhile, Henry Anderson (shoulder), Brandon Copeland (hip/thumb), Neville Hewitt (neck/knee), Alex Lewis (elbow/shoulder), Steve McLendon (neck) and Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) are all questionable, but expected to play.

Darryl Roberts (calf), Mathias Farley (quad) and Paul Worrilow (quad) are listed as doubtful. C.J. Mosley (groin) is out as expected.

5 things Broncos fans should know about the Bills

Here’s what Broncos fans should know about the Bills this week.

Ahead of the Broncos’ showdown with the Bills on Sunday, we asked Nick Wojton of Bills Wire five questions about the Buffalo-based team. Here are our questions and Nick’s answers.

1. Isaiah McKenzie had fumbling problems in Denver, which is ultimately why the Broncos cut him. Has that problem popped up in Buffalo and if so, does his explosiveness cancel out the risk of his fumbles?

This season Isaiah McKenzie hasn’t had any sort of problems with fumbling to this point. He did have a couple with the Bills last season, but it was never a glaring problem. But those fumbling issues came up as a returner and now the Bills have All-Pro returner Andre Roberts, so McKenzie actually factors into the Bills offense much more. Speaking of which, he’s going to be a player to watch this week. As you mentioned, this is the “Isaiah McKenzie revenge game.” Semi-kidding, but he did play a season-high 78 percent of snaps on offense as the Bills used a ton of 11 personnel last week against Miami. His explosiveness comes in very handy when the Bills get creative and give him carries on trick plays and end arounds.

2. Is seems like Josh Allen is protecting the football better this year than last season but he still has 10 turnovers in 10 games — is that a concern?

In regard to Allen’s giveaways, it’s a flip of a coin. In the past five games, he actually doesn’t have an interception. The Broncos have a good secondary so there’s a chance he could have the streak snapped. The MUCH bigger issue is his fumbling. When he carries the ball, he loses the ball far too often. I would bet the Broncos are well aware of this and will be swatting at the pigskin any time he takes off.

3. Do the Bills have any underrated players — on offense or defense — who Broncos fans should keep an eye on?

Linebacker Matt Milano is truthfully a Pro Bowler and borderline All-Pro some weeks. As a first-rounder in the middle of their defense, Tremaine Edmunds gets a lot of the credit and it’s deserved, too. He’s an athletic freak at 6-foot-5 who is all over the field. Milano is an undersized former safety and fifth-round pick who’s all over tight ends and backs and is just consistently impressive. Tre’Davious White at cornerback didn’t have his best game last week, but he’s also arguably amongst the best at his position in the league. On offense, to our shock here in Buffalo, John Brown leads the AFC in receiving yards entering this game. Yes, it’s true. He’s not a dynamic, explosive, guy. He’s just consistent. At least 50 yards in every game this season and he’s on pace for 1,300 yards. That simply doesn’t happen for Bills wideouts… or at least not in the past two decades.

4. Should we pick up Dawson Knox in dynasty fantasy football leagues (or even season-long leagues)?

Great question. I wouldn’t peg him as a top-tier guy type of potential, but he’s got some. When Tyler Kroft came back off injury, he was inserted as the starter. That lasted about a game and a half and over the past few weeks, the Bills haven’t been able to keep Knox off the field. He’s still a bit raw, but there is obvious upside with him as both a playmaker and blocker. A nugget for your readers: before scoring this season with the Bills, he actually had not scored a touchdown since high school. At Ole Miss he made plays, but AJ Brown and DK Metcalf were scooping up all the scores because he never once found the end zone in college. Go figure.

5. What’s your prediction for Sunday — who wins and why?

I’ve been back and forth on this one all week. The Broncos defensive improvements have been impressive, but I’m going to go with the home team here since Denver hasn’t had the most success on the year and the Bills shut down Tom Brady. No offense to Brandon Allen, but… yeah. I don’t think Josh Allen does much either, but this might be a game where a special teams or defensive score from the Bills makes all the difference at home so we’ll go 17-10 Bills.

Two of the Premier League’s most out of form teams will pit their records against one another when sixth-place Arsenal hosts Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. The two teams boast a combined total of one win from each of their last six games, and Unai Emery is under extreme pressure to bag three points at home.

Arsenal vs. Southampton

When: Saturday, November 23

Time: 10:00 a.m. ET

TV: NBC

Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

Tuesday evening brought the news that Mauricio Pochettino had been Tottenham Hotspur, perhaps the less expected dismissal in north London during this international break. Emery may count himself fortunate not to have been the first to go considering Arsenal has won once in its last seven games, still licking its wounds from a 2-0 loss at Leicester City in Week 12.

Saints chief Ralph Hasenhuttl doesn’t have the same weight of expectation on the south coast, but there’s a growing sense the Austrian is also riding the last of his luck at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Hasenhuttl’s first win as a manager in England was a 3-2 surprise result against Arsenal in December at home, though the Premier League appears more wise to his tactics now.

His side hasn’t won a match in its last seven outings and suffered defeat in six of those. A 1-1 draw away to the Wolverhampton Wanderers last month accounts for the only point Southampton has claimed from the last possible 21.

As fate would have it, the Gunners’ last Premier League point came following a 1-1 draw of their own against the Wolves on Nov. 2. Following a 2-2 result against Crystal Palace one week prior, this was the second home game in a row that Arsenal lost a lead to a draw.

The same happened again in its Europa League visit to Vitoria on Nov. 6 when Bruno Duarte scored late and canceled out Shkodran Mustafi’s 80th-minute opener.

There won’t be any excuses for Arsenal should it fail to clinch maximum spoils on Saturday. Dani Ceballos is the only injury concern after he suffered a hamstring injury before the international break, giving the manager an almost fully fit selection.

Southampton has a limited injury list, too, with the Republic of Ireland forward Michael Obafemi being its only concern before the trip to north London.

Hasenhuttl’s side surprised Arsenal on home soil in December, but the Saints haven’t beaten the Gunners away from home in league competition since November 1987.

Defeat at the Emirates could spell the end of either manager’s reign depending on the nature of the result, with both bosses feeling the heat approaching a tense winter schedule.

Marcus Peters hasn’t been telling Ravens much about Rams

Marcus Peters hasn’t disclosed many of the Rams’ secrets, according to Matt Judon of the Ravens.

Much has been made about Eric Weddle’s refusal to share any inside information on the Ravens with the Rams. He feels as though he’d be betraying his former teammates and coaches by disclosing intel to his new team.

Marcus Peters probably doesn’t feel the same way about sharing Rams secrets with the Ravens. Though he said he doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder in advance of Monday’s game against the team that traded him midseason, he is telling his current team some information.

According to Matt Judon of the Ravens, though, it isn’t much. Steve Wyche of NFL Network shared what Judon told him about Peters’ intel.

“He also said Peters has not been telling a whole lot on the Rams. He said just a little bit, but not that much. He said, ‘Ain’t no snitching here. This is gonna be a straight-up game,’” Wyche said.

Also in Wyche’s report is Judon’s response to Weddle keeping his lips sealed ahead of this marquee matchup.

“He said, ‘That’s who Weddle is. And he’s also the type of guy who would go to the Rams’ coaches and say, if you have not seen any of their tendencies on film, go watch more film.’”

Peters will definitely have an advantage, since he was traded about a month ago, whereas Weddle hasn’t been in Baltimore since last season. The Ravens’ calls have undoubtedly changed since then, whereas the Rams will have trouble switching things up too much with Peters on the other side.

That being said, Sean McVay acknowledged that the team will “be careful” with its gameplan.

Bears’ Adam Shaheen, Danny Trevathan out vs. Giants

The Bears will start QB Mitchell Trubisky vs. the New York Giants in Week 12, but will be without TE Adam Shaheen and LB Danny Trevathan.

When the New York Giants take on the Chicago Bears in Week 12, they will square off not against Chase Daniel, who they saw in 2018, but Mitchell Trubisky, who did not receive an injury designation on Friday and is expected to start.

“We’ve all put in a lot of time and energy and hard work to get where we’re at, [but] we’re not where we want to be,” said coach Matt Nagy, via the Sun-Times. “But I’ll say this: The last two weeks… he has without a doubt gotten a lot better at the quarterback position. Decision-making, throws — where he’s at the last two weeks has been a lot better.”

Although the Bears will have Trubisky under center, they will be without two key starters — one on offense and one on defense.

Tight end Adam Shaheen, who did not practice all week with a foot injury, was officially ruled out for Sunday’s game. He will be replaced by fellow tight ends Ben Braunecker and J.P. Holtz.

Additionally, the Bears will also be without starting inside linebacker Danny Trevathan, who was ruled out with an elbow injury. Like Shaheen, Trevathan was unable to practice this week. He will be spelled by Nick Kwiatkoski.

Finally, linebacker Isaiah Irving is listed as questionable with a quad injury.

The good news for Chicago is that offensive lineman Bobby Massie, who has been hobbled by a back injury, was given the green light and will start against New York.
