Two Former Longhorns Have A Shot At Super Bowl Ring

The Super Bowl will take place in two weeks and two former Longhorns won’t play but could find themselves getting a championship ring.

After a full season grind started with training camp in July will come to an end on February 2, 2020. The Super Bowl in Miami will feature a couple teams with a Longhorn on their team, the unfortunate part of all of this is that both players seasons were ended due to injury. Despite that, whoever wins the game will give one of them a ring.

When the playoffs started there were more than a handful of former Longhorns that were vying to win a Super Bowl Championship in 2020. The Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks employed the most players who spent their college days on The Forty Acres. However, neither team even made it to the conference championship round.

Alex Okafor of the Kansas City Chiefs had his season ended on December 15th against the Denver Broncos when he tore his pectoral muscle. Marquise Goodwin of the San Francisco 49ers had his season ended just a few days prior when he was placed on the injured reserve list with a knee injury.

Regardless of which teams wins the Lombardi Trophy, a former Texas Longhorn will get their opportunity to finally get an opportunity to be a champion at the highest level of football.

NFL fans roasted Jimmy Garoppolo for hardly throwing in the NFC championship

Jimmy Garoppolo was chilling during the NFC Championship Game.

Jimmy Garoppolo’s shoulder may be sore on Monday, but not because he was throwing the ball. Perhaps the sheer volume at which he handed the ball off to a streaking running back will leave his right shoulder achy.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback was just 6 of 8 for 77 yards in his team’s 37-20 win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday night. It was an even more underwhelming game than his performance in the NFC divisional round, when he was 11 of 19 for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Minnesota Vikings. But Garoppolo’s ability to pass the ball didn’t much matter in either game. The 49ers’ rushing attack was preposterously dominant.

Raheem Mostert took 29 of the team’s 41 carries with 220 of the team’s 287 rushing yards and all four of the team’s rushing touchdowns.

Maybe Garoppolo didn’t throw the ball. But why throw when there’s no need? The quarterback will enter Super Bowl LIV with fewer total postseason passes than his opponent, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, had in each of his performances this postseason.

Still, NFL fans roasted Garoppolo for his quiet night.

Surely, Garoppolo doesn’t mind the criticism and doesn’t mind taking a backseat to the rushing offense. He’ll be happy to do it again, if it means a win over the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

Distant replay: Last time 49ers met the Chiefs, Jimmy Garoppolo blew out his knee

The last time the Chiefs and 49ers matched up saw Jimmy Garoppolo tear his left ACL.

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are meeting in Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2 at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. Forgive Niners’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo if he wants to erase the last time the teams played from his memory.

The Chiefs were 2-0 and the 49ers were 1-1 when they met at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 23, 2018.

With less than six minutes remaining, Garoppolo took off on aa 13-yard run down the sideline. While attempting to elude a Chiefs defender, he planted his left leg and his knee appeared to buckle. The 26-year-old was later carted to the locker room. The next day it was official: Garoppolo, who had signed a $137.5M contract in the offseason, had torn his ACL and was done for the season.

The Chiefs went on to win the game, 38-27. Garoppolo was 20-of-31 for 251 yards and a pair of TDs before the injury.

The Chief went on to a 12-4 season before losing in the Conference championship to the Patriots. The 49ers finished 4-12 and were rewarded with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft, which turned into Joey Bosa.

Super Bowl 54 odds: Opening point spread for Chiefs vs. 49ers

Super Bowl LIV is a superb matchup. Who have the oddsmakers in Vegas made the favorite, the Chiefs or the 49ers?

The Super Bowl line had more moves Sunday than Raheem Mostert. Actually, the shift can be pointed to Mostert and his San Francisco 49er teammates.

Check this out:

When the NFC Championship Game between the 49ers and Packers kicked off, Dave Mason of betonline.ag saw the Kansas City Chiefs as favored over either the Green Bay Packers or 49ers.

However, there are people who are ready to pounce on any line they think is vulnerable and the action started to swing as the Niners started to dominate Green Bay.

And, before you could blink, it was 27-0 for San Francisco at halftime and the money coming in sent the game plunging to pick-em.

The line settled — for now — with the Chiefs as a one-point favorite.

Grant Williams may have found a second calling after basketball

The Celtics rookie recently attended some swimming lessons with a couple of Olympians in Massachusetts.

Grant Williams may already be onto the next sport.

The Boston Celtics rookie learned how to swim on Sunday as Olympians Cullen Jones and Elizabeth Beisel showed him the ropes in the water for the first time.

Williams said afterward that swimming can be beneficial for those trying to work out as it exercises nearly every muscle in the body and it is a fun activity to do.

Of course, Williams is comfortable playing basketball with the Celtics but the rookie certainly had fun on Sunday swimming with some well-established individuals as they passed on their knowledge over to him.

Williams has become a fan favorite among Celtics fans given his outgoing personality and skillset on the floor. He is often comfortable doing the dirty work on the court and that has resulted in earning just his second start of the season on Saturday against the Phoenix Suns.

The Celtics play next Monday against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Rob Lowe’s hat provides internet fodder during a boring NFC championship game

Actor Rob Lowe doesn’t seem to age—and he doesn’t seem to root for any specific NFL team.

Actor Rob Lowe doesn’t seem to age—and he doesn’t seem to root for any specific NFL team.

The longtime Hollywood man has added intrigue to an otherwise boring NFC Championship game when he was snapped wearing a generic “NFL” hat.

Almost simultaneously, the internet noticed Lowe’s wardrobe choice, pointing out that his hat just says, N-F-L.

Known for such roles as “He’s the one who played saxophone” and “Tommy Callahan’s nemesis,” Lowe has taken a very diplomatic road here, keeping his simple joy of American football at the forefront while squashing any reason for either the 49ers or Packers fan base to act out in a rage of betrayal.

Internet Cosmos Update: Even Lowe is surprised by the amount of shine his hat choice has received.

Speaking of the internet and rage and betrayal, Boyz II Men caused a stir during this game, too, singing the national anthem…wearing San Francisco stuff. What? How? Why?! Many Philadelphia-based residents (and beyond) have pointed out that the Men are, in fact, from Philly. So, why would they do this—to the fan base, to the city, to earth?!

Obviously, they’re entertainers, so you can’t fault them for taking the gig—one that they absolutely nailed, by the way. But perhaps they should have been more discreet about what they wore to the game? (See: Rob Lowe.)

In both cases, though, you have to tip your hat to the pop culture juggernauts for providing some entertainment (distractions) while the 49ers continue dismantling Green Bay.

The only thing we can do now is wait for the Richard Sherman-Erin Andrews interview.

49ers RB Raheem Mostert joins 2 other former Eagles as the only players in NFL history with 4 or more rushing TD’s in playoff game

49ers RB Raheem Mostert joins 2 other former Eagles as the only players in NFL history with 4 or more rushing TD’s in a playoff game

Rahee Mostert got caught up in a numbers game when he was a member of the Eagles, Dolphins, Ravens, Browns, Jets, and Bears and never got a chance to even carry the ball in the NFL until he landed on his seventh team, the San Francisco 49ers.

It’s safe to say that Mostert has found a home in San Franciso and cemented his place in NFL history after single handily dismantling the Green Bay Packers through three-quarters of the NFC Championship game.

Mostert currently has 19 carries for 196 yards and 4 touchdowns and in doing so, he just passed Colin Kaepernick (2012) for the most rush yards in a postseason game in 49ers team history.

With is four touchdowns, Mostert joins two other Philadelphia Eagles running backs, LeGarrette Blount and Ricky Watters as the only players in NFL history with 4 or more rushing TD in a playoff game.
