Jon Jones not affected by Israel Adesanya’s trash talk: ‘He’s not in my head at all’

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones says Israel Adesayna’s mind games and trash talk are not working.

[autotag]Israel Adesanya[/autotag] owns no real state in [autotag]Jon Jones[/autotag]’ head, at least according to the UFC light heavyweight champion.

Jones (25-1 MMA, 19-1 UFC), who’s set to defend his belt against Dominick Reyes in February at UFC 247 in Houston, shot down claims of he’s been affected by recent trash talk with Adesany, the UFC middleweight champion. In fact, Jones said it’s quite the opposite and actually enjoys the back-and-forth with “The Last Style Bender.”

“As far as being in my head with the internet stuff, it’s just fun,” Jones said at Friday’s UFC 247 press conference on in Las Vegas. “It’s a lot of fun, the fans enjoy it when we chirp back and forth, and I like to keep people excited. He’s not in my head, he’s not in my head at all. I like the energy he brings to the sport and I like being a part of it.”

Jones and Adesanya have gone at it on Twitter over the last few months, and speculation about a potential fight between the two have grown among fans and media. Jones, 32, said the champ vs. champ fight could actually go down if Adesanya really had intent in fighting him now.

“At the end of the day, if Israel wanted to fight me, that would be a gigantic fight for the sport,” Jones said. “A lot of people are talking about, ‘Well, why are you forcing Israel to go to light heavyweight?’ There’s like a gigantic jump between me and the heavyweights, me an Israel are only 15, 20 pounds apart. So if Israel really wanted to fight me, he would do it. But he’s a (explicit) and there’s really no way around it.”

Jones is one of the most successful champions in UFC history. He’s defended the loght heavyweight belt a total of 10 times in his UFC career. Meanwhile, former interim champ Adesanya recently unified the middleweight title, stopping then champion Robert Whittaker back in October.

More sources coming forward that Jeff Hafley will be Boston College’s next head coach

Ohio State may be losing one of its best assistant coaches. Sources continue to point towards Jeff Hafley accepting the Boston College job.

We’ve heard the rumor mill, but to this point nothing has been confirmed by either Ohio State or Boston College. But as the days pass, more and more sources and reports are being circulated that current Buckeye defensive coordinator and secondary coach Jeff Hafley is set to become the next head coach at Boston College.

Hafley was recruited to Ohio State to help revamp an Ohio State defense that struggled mightily in 2018. He, along with Michigan’s Greg Mattison and Al Washington have helped retool and revive a defense that has had a more simplified and aggressive scheme. The results have been drastic.

The Buckeye defense improved from one that gave up far too many big plays in 2018, to one that is 3rd in the country in scoring defense, 2nd in yards per game, and 2nd in passing yards per game.

Now, it appears as though Hafley may only be in Columbus for just one year. With success, comes these types of opportunities. Urban Meyer had to deal with it often, and now Ryan Day may have to work on plugging a big hole in the coaching staff if these reports end up being true.

Things began to emerge a few days ago, with one of the most credible sources coming from Bruce Feldman of the Athletic.

Since then, other reports have circulated, and now we have a solid report from the Ohio State end from John Brice of Letterman Row.

We must reiterate that there is still nothing official from either of the schools, but as soon as something materializes we’ll be on top of it. These things can be awfully tough to tiptoe when big things are still on the line with Hafley’s OSU team still working on trying to win a national championship, and with the timing of the early signing period for recruits.

Stay tuned.

Bryson DeChambeau joins Presidents Cup fans to cheer on American team

Bryson DeChambeau was benched for both of Saturday’s matches at the Presidents Cup, so he spent some time with the fans.

Team events like the Presidents Cup feature the best players in the world, but not everyone can play in every session during the biennial competition.

Team USA playing captain Tiger Woods benched himself for both rounds on Saturday at Royal Melbourne against Ernie Els and the Internationals, joining rookie Bryson DeChambeau on the pine pony.

The 26-year-old bulked-up DeChambeau struggled in his first match Thursday with Tony Finau, but put a smile on and had some fun with the fans on the first tee, cheering on his teammates during Saturday afternoon’s (Friday night in North America) foursomes matches at Royal Melbourne.

Redskins coaches love Steven Sims’ continued evolution

Steven Sims continues to make an impression.

While injuries to guys like Paul Richardson have muddied outcomes for the Washington Redskins this year, the injury setbacks have enabled fast-risers like Steven Sims to shine.

And shine Sims has, especially as of late as he’s caught three or more passes in each of his last two games, not to mention his plays on special teams that resulted in a weekly honor.

For offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell, Sims’ upward swing and the developmental stance of the franchise over the next few games could mean even more looks for the promising wide receiver looking to have a role long into the future.

Per Craig Hoffman of 106.7 The Fan:

Wideout has been a kind position for the Reskins this year. Terry McLaurin has obviously been a breakout star, but the presence of Sims stepping up with guys like Richardson out is a good sign

Sims gets another shot at impressing against the Eagles over the weekend.
