Texas – Can it all be put together?
Last season was another big promise, no result type of season, and Tom Herman finally made changes to his staff. Mike Yurich will take over as the offensive coordinator, while Chris Ash will replace Todd Orlando and run the defense.
With Sam Ehlinger returning for his final season, big things are once again going to be expected from the Texas offense. Losing receivers Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson to the NFL is going to hurt, but other players should get involved for the Longhorns.
Specifically in the ground game with a trio of Keaontay Ingram, Roschon Johnson, and Bijan Robinson. Running the ball could be the catalyst to this Texas offense, especially with an inexperienced receiving core.
As for the defense, Ash will be switching up the scheme to a 4-3. Joseph Ossai is going to be the man to look out for in 2020. If his Alamo Bowl performance against Utah is a sign of things to come, the Longhorns could have an elite level pass rush.
For a few years now, Texas has had all of this talent but has not been able to put it all together. 2018 was the closest Herman came to winning another conference title but has fallen significantly short in his other two seasons.
With a defense returning most of their starters and a quarterback with the capability of Ehlinger, expectations are once again high for Texas. This is nothing new around the football program. In 2020, however, it must all be put together for a conference championship or more offseason changes could be made.
