TCU – What will Zach Evans do in his first year?
The saga which was Zach Evans and his recruitment finally came to an end, with the five-star prospect choosing TCU. The second-ranked running back in the 2020 class (behind Texas’ Bijan Robinson) is the Horned Frogs’ first-ever five-star prospect out of high school.
It has been a wild ride for him, from not playing in North Shore’s 6A-DI state championship game to being released from his letter of intent at Georgia. After having teams such as Florida, Tennessee, and Texas A&M interested in him, Evans stayed fairly close to home.
TCU’s top two running backs both graduated in 2020, leaving a gaping hole of just over 1,300 yards to fill. Evans will more than likely have the chance to become the main back in Gary Patterson’s offense. With immediate playing time imminent, Evans is going to need to put all the drama behind him and find a way to keep his focus on the football field.
Compared to Melvin Gordon by 247Sports, the sky is the limit for Evans in college. With questions still surrounding the quarterback position in Fort Worth, pounding the ball will be the main focus for TCU this season. If the hype is real, Evans has the chance to become the next great running back out of the Big 12.
If the off the field issues continue, the saga and past storyline will always be the main focus around this great talent.
