One question for every Big 12 team going into the 2020 season

Nothing is certain in the Big 12 this upcoming season, with teams needing answers. Here is one question for every Big 12 team for 2020.

Oklahoma – Is Spencer Rattler going to live up to expectations?

For the first time since 2014, Oklahoma is expected to have a starting quarterback in which they recruited out of high school. The past four years have seen Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Jalen Hurts string together success in the Big 12, but come up short on the national stage with an 0-4 record in the playoff.

Now, former five-star and top-ranked quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class, Spencer Rattler, is expected to take over for Lincoln Riley. After only seeing three games last season, the redshirt freshman has very limited experience, only throwing 11 passes.

The standard for quarterbacks at Oklahoma has been set from the past three. Not only do you need to be the best in the Big 12, but you also need to be in the running for the Heisman Trophy as a top player throughout the country. While it may not happen in year one, Rattler has the skillset to get to that level, especially with Riley running the offense.

He’ll be helped with one of the best offensive lines in the nation, plus handing the ball off to Kennedy Brooks more times than not results in positive plays. Rattler will need help from his star-receiver Charleston Rambo to keep the lethal passing game rolling in Norman.

With CeeDee Lamb off to the NFL and Jadon Haselwood tearing his ACL earlier this spring, Rattler will have limited options in the passing game. The former Elite 11 MVP has big shoes to fill, with skyrocket expectations attached to him.
