One bettor is a game away from huge payout on Mike White’s big day for the Jets

Only a Monday night game involving Patrick Mahomes stands in the way of $125,000.

New York Jets backup quarterback Mike White’s big game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday propelled his team to an improbable victory, but that might not be the biggest win that comes from his 405-yard performance.

One bettor placed a $1,000 bet on White at 125/1 odds to lead the NFL in passing yards for Week 8. It might’ve been a shot in the dark considering White — five years removed from college — was making his first career NFL start. Or maybe the bettor knew something everyone else didn’t. Either way, they’re on a path to winning $125,000 if White’s yardage holds up after Monday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants.

Of course, with Patrick Mahomes playing, no number is safe. He’s eclipsed 405 yards five times in his career, including twice last season — one of those times was exactly a year ago from Monday’s game, coincidentally. The closest Mahomes has come this season is 397 yards. Even Daniel Jones has a career-high of 402 yards, which came earlier this season.

As a hedge on the possibility of walking away with nothing, the bettor is apparently trying to sell the ticket on PropSwap for $120,000, with a minimum bid of $100,000.

So, if someone is confident enough to purchase the ticket for the minimum number, they would make a $25,000 profit if White’s number holds up Monday. And the original bettor wouldn’t miss the ticket too much, as they’d still be up $99,000.

Of course, anyone who purchases the ticket would risk losing out on a lot more than the original $1,000 bet if Jones or Mahomes put up an All-Pro performance.
