Texas has had an up-and-down week on the recruiting trail.
On Thanksgiving Day, the Longhorns landed a re-commitment from four-star defensive back Jaylon Guilbeau. The Port Arthur native decommitted from Texas in July and later chose to commit to TCU just two months later. With head coach Gary Patterson no longer with the Horned Frogs, it once again opened the door for Steve Sarkisian’s staff.
However, Texas also lost two commitments over the last two days. Four-star running back Jamarion Miller flipped to Alabama, while four-star wide receiver Armani Winfield chose to decommit from Texas during their season finale against Kansas State.
Due to the losses of Miller and Winfield, Oklahoma jumped Texas in 247Sports 2022 recruiting class rankings. The Longhorns fell one spot to the No. 8 class in the nation, while the Sooners are narrowly ahead at No. 7.
It’s still very possible for Steve Sarkisian to finish his first full recruiting cycle at Texas with a top recruiting class in the nation. Several priority targets are still on the board, including five-star offensive lineman Devon Campbell, four-star quarterback Devin Brown and five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart among others.
