Ohio State’s still incomplete 2021 recruiting class would be the sixth best class of last year without anymore commitments

Ohio State football’s still building 2021 recruiting class would be a top-six class in last year’s cycle without adding anyone else.

By now you likely know the Ohio State football program is putting together a 2021 class for the ages. It already has 17 verbal commitments, many of the four and five-star variety. The class is so far ahead of any other program that it’s about ready to run away and hide.

To put it into a little bit more perspective, Ohio State’s 2020 class finished as a consensus top-five class. According to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings, the Buckeyes’ haul last year finished No. 5 behind Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, and LSU. It had a total of 295.08 points and an average star rating of 91.80 per recruit.

That’s a fantastic class no matter how you look at it.

Now let’s compare it to what’s in the fold so far for this year. As previously mentioned, after the verbal commitment of four-star athlete Jantzen Dunn Monday, Ryan Day and staff now have seventeen commitments and are a clear No. 1. More than that though, the class has a total point value of 294.67, and average star rating of 95.25 according to 247Sports.

That means this year’s class has almost caught the complete 25-man recruiting class from 2020. Even more impressive, if the class were to finish with only the players that have committed to date, it would have finished as the sixth-best last year, right behind its own class from the same recruiting cycle.

That’s getting it done folks. Now, OSU still has to keep the guys it has verbally committed all the way through national signing day, and that’s never a sure thing. But even with a couple of defections, this is lining up to be one of the best classes ever signed in Columbus.
