The Ohio State Buckeyes are in the thick of training camp leading up to the season opener against Minnesota and black stripes are being shed like snakeskin. The latest to officially become a Buckeye? Punter Jesse Mirco.
Mirco hails from the land down under, an Australian rugby-style punter. He was a three-star recruit, but that’s about as many stars these specialists will ever get. Mirco was ranked as the No. 6 overall punter and third best out of Australia according to 247Sports.
Introduced as the “punter from down under” Mirco seemed excited to be part of the OSU family.
“I just want to thank you boys for welcoming me into the brotherhood,” Mirco said. “All the coaching staff for the opportunity. Coach Mick, Coach Chris, and the strength staff. And the specs. Go Bucks!”

Family feel has to be important when you travel halfway across the globe to chase your dreams and Mirco is in the right place for it.
Mirco will have some big shoes to fill as Drue Chrisman signed with his hometown Cincinnati Bengals after being a two-year starter for the Bucks. But do Aussies have bottle flipping skills? We’ll have to wait and see on that one.
We’ll keep you up to speed as more black stripes will surely be removed in the coming days.
