Oddsmakers have Tom Herman as the head coach of Texas next season

Regardless of the speculation, oddsmakers are leaning towards Tom Herman being the head coach at Texas in 2021.

Although there’s currently not a coaching vacancy at Texas, speculation continues to grow that the prestigious job could be open soon.

It appears to be a boom or bust approach with former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. If the Longhorns are unable to land the proven, championship-winning coach, where do they turn next?

It’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not Meyer would like to return to the field. He’s currently enjoying his role as a FOX Sports college football studio analyst for the network’s college football pregame show, Big Noon Kickoff.

Herman is now in his fourth year at Texas and has yet to win a Big 12 title or compete in the College Football Playoff. He has an overall 30-18 record with the Longhorns and has suffered inexcusable losses to unranked teams each season.

Player development is clearly lacking and the underwhelming production on the field has begun to hinder the recruiting department. While many agree that it’s time for a change in Austin, oddsmakers still believe that Herman will be the head coach at Texas for 2021.

In fact, if Texas did decide to move on from Herman, oddsmakers believe it’s more likely for a current NCAA coach or assistant to fill the coaching vacancy than it is to persuade Meyer to come to the Forty Acres.

If athletic director Chris Del Conte is truly ready to make a big splash, money won’t be the issue. However, is Texas ready to part ways with Herman yet? Is Meyer interested in taking the job? It’s too early to tell, but it’ll sure be an interesting two weeks of speculation to close out the 2020 season.
