No. 7 Texas vs Texas Tech: A brief history of the Longhorns owning the rivalry

The two teams play each other for possibly the last time on Friday.

The upcoming game between the No. 7 Texas Longhorns and the Texas Tech Red Raiders might be their last encounter due to Texas moving to the SEC in 2024.

Although it’s always exciting when two evenly matched teams go head-to-head, this rivalry has been one-sided. Only 18 out of 72 wins going to the Red Raiders.

While Texas Tech has only managed consecutive victories against Texas four times, the Longhorns have had several winning streaks, including one of eight games in a row.

The biggest win for Texas was a 58-7 victory over Texas Tech in 1999, while the Red Raiders’ largest margin of victory was a 33-9 win in 1994.

Since 2000, the Texas Longhorns have won 18 games, but their .750 win percentage goes back more than a century, showing that Texas has a long history of football success against the Red Raiders.

The two teams play each other for possibly the last time on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
