No. 1 tight end in the 2022 class puts Texas among top five schools

Texas is among the top five schools for the nation’s No. 1 tight end prospect in the 2022 class.

Four-star tight end Jaleel Skinner has nearly every major Power Five program vying for his services.

He’s rated the No. 1 tight end prospect for the 2022 recruiting class and the No. 3 overall recruit from the state of South Carolina according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Skinner is a multi-sport athlete who plays football, basketball and ran track at the high school level. In 2020, he got snaps at wide receiver, tight end and cornerback for Greer High School.

Texas extended an offer to the 6-foot-5, 210-pound versatile playmaker on January 26. Over the month of June, Skinner took official visits to Florida, Alabama, Texas, Miami and Florida State.

Skinner announced the final five schools left in his recruitment on Wednesday and the Longhorns made the cut. Alabama, Florida State, Miami and Clemson are the other finalists.

Several 247Sports crystal ball predictions have been entered for Skinner in favor of Clemson, Florida State and Florida. Although the Seminoles lead the predictions, it’s fair to say it’s anyone’s game at this point.

Texas tight ends coach Jeff Banks will need to roll out the red carpet to try and sway Skinner to Austin.
