Nebraska softball suffers 7-1 loss to Wichita State

Nebraska returned home to host Wichita State and Missouri in the Big Red Invitational.

Nebraska returned home to host Wichita State and Missouri in the Big Red Invitational this weekend. The Huskers began the tournament with a Friday night showdown against Wichita State. Nebraska fell to the Shockers in a one-sided 7-1 defeat.

The Huskers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Wichita State responded with seven unanswered runs, including five in the fifth. Peyton Cody delivered the run for Nebraska, hitting an RBI double to bring in Billie Andrews.

Caitlin Olensky started in the circle, facing 21 batters across 4.0 innings. Olensky threw two strikeouts but surrendered five hits and three runs. Kaylin Kinney pitched the following inning, surrendering four runs against nine batters. Emerson Cope took the circle for the final two innings, throwing two strikeouts and allowing one hit against six batters.

Nebraska falls to 8-7 on the season and will play the Shockers once again Saturday afternoon, then face off against Missouri afterward. The first pitch against Wichita State is set for 1:30 p.m. and the first pitch against Missouri is for 4:00 p.m. and both can be viewed on B1G+.
