College football’s watch list season continued today with the John Mackey Award, which is given annually to the nation’s best tight end and features a trio of Mountain West players.

Colorado State’s Trey McBride, who also made this preseason watch list last summer, headlines the group after leading the conference’s tight end with 44 catches and 560 receiving yards in 2019, scoring four touchdowns. According to Pro Football Focus, he’s also the highest-graded player at his position returning for 2020.

John Bates, like McBride, also appears on this list again after helping to anchor a yound and revamped Boise State offense. He finished 2019 with 22 catches for 273 yards and a touchdown.

Finally, San Diego State’s Daniel Bellinger caught 15 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games last season. He’ll be the featured tight end in this year’s Aztecs offense now that Parker Houston, who made the Mackey watch list in 2019, has moved on.

Last year’s John Mackey Award winner was Florida Atlantic’s Harrison Bryant.
