On Monday, I think that Shakur Brown surprised some Michigan State and college football fans when he announced that he would forego his senior season and enter the 2021 NFL Draft. However, if you have really been paying attention, this shouldn’t really come as a surprise.
Brown has put together one of the best seasons of any cornerback in the country, and that was confirmed over the weekend by the PFF College data. PFF released their top 5 highest ranked defensive backs in college football, and Brown came in at No. 5 on that list:
Highest-graded DBs in College Football
1. Patrick Surtain II, Alabama – 88.4
2. Keith Gallmon, S Alabama – 86.9
3. Jaquan Brisker, Penn St – 85.9
4. Elijah Molden, Washington – 85.1
5. Shakur Brown, Michigan St – 84.7— PFF College (@PFF_College) December 12, 2020
A lot of Brown’s rating comes down to superb ball-hawking skills, where he has managed to intercept 5 passes on the season, tied for most in the NCAA.
Brown has a great chance to help extend MSU’s draft streak to 81 years this spring.
