The Miami Dolphins are releasing an NFL Pro Bowler and a former Georgia Bulldog in safety Reshad Jones

The Miami Dolphins are releasing former Georgia Bulldog Reshad Jones per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Jones played safety for Miami and will look for a new home at the start of NFL Free Agency.

Jones played the first ten seasons of his career in Miami. Over that time he recorded 776 total tackles and intercepted 21 passes. Miami drafted Jones in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia.

Miami is releasing Reshad Jones three seasons after signing him to a five-year $60 million dollar contract extension in 2017. Jones is coming off a pair of shoulder injuries and ended the 2019 season on IR after playing in only four games.

Dolphins GM Chris Grier thanked Reshad Jones in a statement via Twitter:

The Dolphins, which are undergoing a youth movement save $5.3 million dollars in cap space. Miami will have lots of money to spend this off-season and has an enormous amount of NFL Draft capital. Their rebuild will be fun to watch.
