LSU women’s basketball falls from No. 1 spot in polls after Colorado loss

The Tigers’ stay at No. 1 didn’t last very long.

LSU’s women’s basketball team has won three games in a row since it was stunned in the season opener against Colorado in Las Vegas. But wins against mid-major opponents didn’t save the Tigers from falling off their perch as the preseason No. 1 team.

In the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, which was released Tuesday the Tigers fell four spots to No. 5. That’s more friendly than the AP Top 25, which released Monday and has coach Kim Mulkey’s team at No. 7.

Neither of those polls took LSU’s win against a solid mid-major team in Kent State on Tuesday morning into account, but it likely wouldn’t have made much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

LSU will be back in action on Friday night when it travels to take on Southeastern Louisiana in its first true road game of the season.
