Look. Cleveland news channel claps back at Ohio joke by Detroit Free Press

Ohio State and Michigan don’t like each other and it can carry over to media. The Detroit Free Press and a Cleveland station got into it.

You know things are really slow when news outlets from rivalry states begin slinging mud back at each other.

That’s exactly what we had when, unprompted, the Detroit Free Press sent out a tweet this past week attempting to dunk on the entire state of Ohio. And while that wouldn’t exactly be surprising if players, fans, or even coaches involved in The Game between Ohio State and Michigan were to sling out an insulting social media post unprovoked, it’s a little odd for a major news publication like one of Michigan’s most-followed and read news sites to do so.

The Free Press sent out the following on Thursday of this past week, seemingly out of nowhere. And, we might add, for no reason other than to rile up an entire state.

To be fair, it’s a pretty good troll in the midst of one of the worst years any of us have seen.

As soon as the tweet went out though, you had to figure there would be swift reaction from the state just to the south. And sure enough News 5 in Cleveland was happy to oblige.

You’d think Michiganders would know at this point there’s just no trump card to play when throwing insults back and forth to those in Ohio, but predictably they haven’t learned. I mean — and from Detroit no less.

The ABC affiliate in Cleveland, WEWS responded with a simple, yet, argument-ending reply.

Well done guys. Do yourself a favor and read some of the comments in the thread too because those are almost worth as much as the clap back by the Ohio news station.

Man, do we need football back (safely).
